What you’ll do
Develop a 3-year pipeline of apparel and accessories product lines for FWD
Directly lead the conceptualization and design development of trend-inspired activewear, accessories and lifestyle products based on trends, gaps in the portfolio, the target consumer, and the brand business model
On any given day you will source materials, design and render fashion / lifestyle products, pull together a presentation, create graphic artwork or a textile pattern, develop tech specs, review samples, and communicate with our vendors or overseas production teams
Work closely with the Quality, Brand Marketing and PRO teams to integrate the specifications into their work streams
Identify contract manufacturing partners that utilize green or sustainable manufacturing processes and materials
Collaborate with QA on all testing requirements to support product launches to ensure all safety and compliance measures are adhered to for domestic and global distribution
Spearhead generation of the proposals on key materials, design elements, and applications from industry findings, that can be utilized
Identify the packaging concepts and technology for new products or for improvement for existing products.
Partner with packaging vendors to support new concepts, evaluate quality, cost and timelines to align with cost objectives for each project
Continuously evaluate current product development processes to improve consistency, identify and manage gaps, and increase efficiencies
Maintain fashion and accessories industry knowledge by attending seminars, tradeshows, reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks

Post-secondary education in Fashion Design plus 6-8 years work experience in garment and / or accessories design
Exceptional knowledge of activewear design trends, competitive landscape & fabrics
In-depth knowledge of fabric properties, design techniques, and production processes i.e., production cycle timeline, garment construction and product costing
A demonstrable understanding of design 3D forms
Experience in managing vendor relationships
Outstanding communication; strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to adjust style and format as required to suit the audience and the ability to formulate and sell recommendations based upon robust research and assessment of risk / rewards
Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and develop solutions to drive product development projects forward
An organized and detail-oriented mindset; able to tackle multiple projects with varying scope and project teams
