Your opportunity

Our Winnipeg office is looking for an Intermediate Accountant to join our Indigenous Executive Management Services team and own the following responsibilities :

  • Work collaboratively with Indigenous communities and organizations to achieve their economic goals by providing training, accounting support, financial analysis and guidance that aligns with their values
  • Helping communities through difficult times by improving financial and operational controls, financial performance and service delivery in the short term, as well as setting them up for sustainable long-term success in order to achieve their socio-economic goals
  • Various full-cycle accounting responsibilities as described below, as well as training clients to complete the accounting tasks in order to establish a sustained community impact
  • Conducting financial analysis and producing client financial statements according to GAAP
  • Creating presentations and presenting financial analysis and updates regularly to client community leadership / councils
  • Accounts Payable including balancing subledgers, vendor file maintenance, processing / reviewing purchase orders, payment processing etc.
  • Accounts Receivable including setting up customers, invoice processing, deposit preparation, customer maintenance, etc.
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Payroll including collecting timesheets and preparing and submitting payroll, maintaining employee info for issuing ROE’s and preparing and sending bank transfers for all payrolls
  • Journal Entries
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Preparation of Cash Flows
  • Preparing / pulling various reports as requested
  • Traveling to First Nation communities to provide training and present financial statements

  • Y our experience and education

  • Two or more years of experience in accounting and preparing financial statements
  • Experience preparing annual budgets
  • Completion or current enrollment in the CPA program is an asset
  • Experience working with Sage / Acc Pac and / or equivalent accounting software programs
  • Experience working with MS Word, Excel and other computer programs
  • Ability to learn quickly and multitask effectively
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment with tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail, along with strong problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience in working with First Nations clients would be considered an asset
