The Packaging Optimization Consultant’s role is to increase structural packaging resources to address growing business demands for cost-
effective, optimal packaging for Canadian Tire’s owned brands in all divisions. You will focus on structural testing of master cartons, influencing material choices and minimizing damage reduction.
What you’ll do
Review of vendor initiated SPT (Structural Packaging Test) reports. Provide direction to vendors and QA Team for failed structural packaging criteria in order for corrective action to be completed prior to production.
Annual review of SPT Acceptance Criteria & Vendor Guide. Review and update documents to capture required changes in test criteria methodology & packaging standards
Damage Reduction : identify, investigate and provide structural packaging solutions to resolve high damage rates in conjunction with Supply Chain Solutions team.
Gain alignment from key vendors for implementation of improvements and track progress
Provide packaging development support for CT Owned Brands during Line Reviews, OBAP process & for ad hoc requests.Print production & pre-
press experience an asset
Research and keep current on packaging trends and new technologies. Determine feasibility for application to Canadian Tire owned brands in order to enhance packaging structure and shelf presence with minimal impact to cost.
Monitor standards (i.e. : ISTA / ASTM) and apply to SPT Acceptance Criteria and / or Vendor Guide
Provide support to 3rd party service providers (test labs) : provide direction to technicians, as required
Business Sustainability Team : provide ad hoc support to sustainability projects for all levels of packaging (primary, secondary, tertiary)

What you bring
CPP (Certified Packaging Professional) or CPIT (Certified Professional in Training) preferred
College diploma, preferably in package design and development. Graduates of Packaging Engineering / Technology are welcome to apply
Minimum of 1 -3 years of progressive experience in packaging related roles (i.e. : packaging engineering, design and / or sustainability)
Strong technical knowledge of packaging materials, components, equipment, suppliers and design with the ability to apply this knowledge to a retail environment
Detail-oriented, possess a strong business acumen & able to manage multiple projects.
Ability to work autonomously, with excellent organizational and strong decision-making skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate and effectively influence a broad internal stakeholder group, as well as key external vendors
Working knowledge of supply chain handling processes
Ability to travel within the GTA to distribution centres and retail locations monthly
Ability to physically open and examine packaged products. Ability to climb up to 4 flights of stairs at distribution centre to view product
