Under the general direction of the Manager, Payroll Services, the incumbent provides payroll accounting support to employees and divisions.

  • Responsibilities include : Payroll reconciliation for monthly, biweekly and off cycle pay runs and release of bank files;
  • stop payment; payroll cheques processing in FIS; providing consultation and advice to divisions regarding payroll, journal entries, etc.

  • responding to employee inquiries and investigating discrepancies; producing letters and remittances to unions; processing 3rd party payments related to payroll;
  • benefits and other deductions reconciliations; providing payroll deductions reports; and participation in end user testing for HRIS projects.

    MINIMUM) Education :

    Post secondary education preferred in Payroll Administration. Canadian Payroll Association Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) an asset.

    Relevant training and experience would be considered in evaluating candidates who do not have post-secondary education.

    Experience :

    3-4 years related Payroll experience preferably in a large and decentralized organization; a broad general knowledge of Payroll related policies, practices and procedures and related legislation or an acceptable equivalent in education and experience.

    Experience working in a customer service or reception area is an asset.

    Skills :

    Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, excellent keyboarding skills; proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications, working knowledge of University Administrative Management Systems -

    HRIS and FIS, is an asset. Strong customer service skills.

    Other :

    Ability to exercise judgment in prioritizing and time managing work and dealing with clients; ability to balance the competing demands of day-

    to-day work and to manage conflicting deadlines with the special requirements of testing and projects. Must have analytical experience, be accurate with numbers, well organized and have the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making.

    Demonstrated ability to deal with people tactfully and effectively. Ability to remain collected under stress. Proven ability to make effective decisions.

    Meticulous attention to detail is mandatory. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required. An individual who works well alone and also values a team environment is required.
