MAINTENANCE REPAIRWORKER I

The Department of Social Development is seeking a Maintenance Repair Worker for an existing casual opportunity in the Miramichi region.

This individual will be responsible to perform general and preventative maintenance on housing units. Duties may include, but are not limited to : performing minor plumbing, carpentry, janitorial and painting repair work of a routine nature;

lifting, moving, or carrying building material, equipment or appliances; maintaining and up keeping assigned vehicle; preparing periodic work status reports;

maintaining inventory and estimating costs; applying work safety regulations; and other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS : Graduation from high school or GED and have three (3) years' experience at the semi-skilled level in carpentry and plumbing occupations.

Language Requirements : Written and spoken competence in English and French are required. Please state your language capability.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS : This position will involve some evening and weekend assignments as well as travel within the region.

Time Limits : A casual shall not be employed in any one department for more than 260 paid days in a 24-month period.

Based on a 40-hour work week. Salary is $20.30 per hour.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES : The successful candidate will possess the following technical competencies :

Ability to Use Office Technology, Software and Applications; and

Planning and Organizing Skills.
