The Department of Social Development is seeking a Maintenance Repair Worker for an existing casual opportunity in the Miramichi region.

  • This individual will be responsible to perform general and preventative maintenance on housing units. Duties may include, but are not limited to : performing minor plumbing, carpentry, janitorial and painting repair work of a routine nature;
  • lifting, moving, or carrying building material, equipment or appliances; maintaining and up keeping assigned vehicle; preparing periodic work status reports;
  • maintaining inventory and estimating costs; applying work safety regulations; and other related duties as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS : Graduation from high school or GED and have three (3) years' experience at the semi-skilled level in carpentry and plumbing occupations.

    Language Requirements : Written and spoken competence in English and French are required. Please state your language capability.

    OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS : This position will involve some evening and weekend assignments as well as travel within the region.

    Time Limits : A casual shall not be employed in any one department for more than 260 paid days in a 24-month period.

    Based on a 40-hour work week. Salary is $20.30 per hour.

    TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES : The successful candidate will possess the following technical competencies :

  • Ability to Use Office Technology, Software and Applications; and
  • Planning and Organizing Skills.
