Job Description :
VCA Canada Alta Vista Animal Hospital is seeking a Treatment Veterinary Assistant, Emergency for a full-time, permanent position.
The hours of work are a minimum average of 40 hours per week running from 7am to 3pm but may vary by week. This position reports directly to the Technical Resources Manager, Emergency / ICU.
As a key player in a team environment, the Treatment Veterinary Assistant is responsible for the following :
Attending morning rounds with overnight treatment / ICU team
Provide morning updates to clients regarding overnight care
Assist treatment veterinarian with treatment sheets for in hospital patients
Input veterinarian communication into records.
Organize laboratory folder and assist veterinarian relaying results to owner
Help to restrain patients for exams
Responsible for calling discharged patients for updates on conditions
Assist in taking Emergency transfer calls from primary care veterinarians
Qualifications & Skills :
Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral)
Able to lift up to 25 kg
Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks / projects
Ability to maintain composure in stressful and emergency situations
Proven ability to organize, take initiative, work independently, exhibits decision making skills and exercises good judgment
Exhibits a positive attitude and uses courtesy, diplomacy and discretion; and,
Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality.
