Your role :

As a Reporter / Editor, your primary objective is to perform reporting and editorial assignments related to the gathering, writing and presentation of program material for all three of our media platforms radio, television and the web.

This will require you to develop and maintain contact with a variety of sources.

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic reporter for our Vancouver newsroom. You will be responsible for taped and live reporting, including pitching story ideas, researching, writing and presenting news stories for broadcast on local and national programs.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to all three editorial platforms.

You will have demonstrated success in your role by gathering and reporting information from various sources, conducting an analysis of facts and information gathered, drawing conclusions or raising issues requiring further investigation, as well as contributing ideas.

You will present information and / or analysis on air in a variety of formats. Your work will be governed by CBC / Radio-

Canada’s journalistic and broadcasting policy and protocols.

Please note :

The work schedule will include weekend shifts on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following : Objective criteria :

  • University degree or the equivalent.
  • Three years’ relevant experience.
  • Excellent reporting and interviewing skills.
  • Experience doing live talkbacks on radio and television, using social media in the field, and writing online copy.
  • Ability to generate and develop story ideas and exclusive reports.
  • Superior English- and French-language skills, spoken and written.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting the French-speaking community, as well as British Columbia and the Yukon in general.
  • Knowledge of CBC / Radio-Canada journalistic policies.
  • Knowledge of CBC / Radio-Canada programming.
  • Availability to work morning, evening and weekend shifts.
  • Valid driver’s licence, as well as a driving record that meets the criteria of CBC / Radio-Canada’s insurer.
  • Understanding of the public broadcaster’s role and responsibilities.
  • Subjective criteria :

  • Ability to work with a variety of teams.
  • Critical mind.
  • Proven ability to work in a high-stress, tight-deadline environment.
  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of CBC / Radio-Canada production applications (Dalet, Media Central, iNEWS, etc.) an asset.
