Your primary role as the Senior or Technical Director Hydropower - Mechanical will be to :

  • Provide technical leadership in the design of hydromechanical, hydropower and pumped hydro energy storage facilities within North America and Australia
  • Build and maintain key client relationships to develop a sustainable capability in North America
  • Secure project opportunities and deliver successful outcomes that will grow the team
  • Build GHD’s profile in dams and hydro-power
  • You will succeed by exhibiting technical leadership at a senior level, active participation in client relationship management, business development and the development of proposals and technical reports.

    Your leadership will be demonstrated through achieving on time and on budget project completion as well as mentoring and developing other team members.

    Experience required :

  • Experience in the mechanical engineering aspects of dams, hydropower and pumped hydro energy storage projects
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in a consulting environment, with in the design and specification of hydraulic machines, pipe work, outlet works, hydromechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, corrosion protection, ventilation and control systems as applicable to hydro and pumped hydro energy storage projects
  • Knowledge of structural design, hydraulic equipment and hydropower systems
  • Experience at all project phases including project identification, feasibility studies, conceptual design, reference design, and detailed design.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplined teams, including geologists, structural engineers, hydraulic engineers, dams engineers, and electrical and mechanical engineers across both jurisdictions and time zones.
  • Additionally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate :

  • Authoritative technical leadership in the mechanical aspects of hydro-mechanical plant, hydro power and pumped hydro energy storage projects
  • Successful development and growth of strong client relationships
  • Established project and time management skills, including preparation of budgets, work programs, proposals, tenders, technical submissions and reports
  • Established project team management skills in a multidisciplinary consulting environment
  • Clear and persuasive written and verbal communication skills in English along with an ability to work well with a variety of clients.
  • Ability to grow a team and provide mentoring of junior staff.
  • A commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe workplace
  • Strong knowledge of relevant Canadian and USA standards, industry guidelines and current industry practices
  • Responsibilities :

  • Providing specialized technical services to clients on a diverse range of dam and hydro-related projects including feasibility studies, design and construction support for new build and improvement projects
  • Providing hydromechanical technical input to our dams design teams locally and abroad.
  • A willingness to travel both nationally and internationally as required for projects,
  • Well regarded dams and hydropower design advice during client tendering and evaluation of tenders and where required design advice and quality control during construction
  • Completion of tasks for multiple projects within budget, to committed programs to support the timely completion of projects
  • Contribution to the preparation of successful proposals to clients
  • Ongoing compliance with GHD’s Quality, Environmental Management and Occupational Health Safety & Rehabilitation Systems
  • Clear, concise reports and presentations for clients
  • Industry recognition as leader in the field of dams and hydropower engineering
  • Active development of GHD’s dams and hydropower business
  • Build effective relationships within GHD including with Business Group Managers, Client Relationship Managers, Market Leaders, Service Line Leaders and other key people
  • Qualifications :

  • Post graduate qualifications will be favourably regarded
  • P.Eng. or P.E. designation in location of employment
