The Operations Telecommunication Technologist will serve as a technical resource, accountable for assisting with the planning, evaluation, monitoring and troubleshooting operation telecommunications networks in addition to ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the information provided by these systems, with a focus on advanced metering systems.
Liaise with internal and / or external parties to provide technical system support, investigate and resolve system failures possibly related to Radio Frequency propagation problems, and create contingency plans for facility outages when required to ensure system reliability.
Identify and coordinate resolution for issues possibly related to Radio Frequency propagation problems, authentication or other network issues.
Provide technical support for decision making by clearly communicating information regarding advanced metering technology and its operation to other team members.
Perform daily and periodic assessments of the operation telecommunication systems, and isolate, identify, and resolve issues within deadlines.
Perform queries on various database systems and analyze the data to assist other business units in obtaining required information from the AMI systems.
Assist in Facilitating and coordinating of installation and commissioning of communications devices.
Assist in the planning and design process for telecommunications networks.
Plan and co-ordinate firmware upgrades to telecommunications networks.
Document and create standard operating procedures on common technical tasks.
Estimate / manage / complete a series of tasks required for simple projects.
Other related duties as required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to those without the background.
Proficient with computer systems and related programs including Microsoft, Network Management Software, SNMP, and / or SCADA.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to perform, both as an individual contributor and as a member of a team.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills to handle numerous assignments and evaluate demands, while remaining flexible and adaptable to rapidly changing priorities.
Demonstrated initiative and decision-making skills.
Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Telecommunication Engineering Technology or Information Technology with a specialization in communication technologies or a professional designation in communications or networking;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of IP networking and security fundamentals, Network Management Software, and / or SNMP.
Understanding of electrical utility distribution systems including metering, Radio Frequency propagation and RF Mesh fundamentals is an asset.
Experience with advanced metering and / or SCADA systems and networks is an asset
Understanding of Mandatory Reliability Systems requirements relating to electric utilities is an asset.
