Distribution Designer / Engineer
POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Distribution Designer / Engineer for our Airdrie, Alberta office.
Roles and Responsibilities
Develop new designs by applying knowledge of utility electrical systems and their operation
Apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop complete and competent designs
Compilation of design packages for construction
Perform quality reviews of project deliverables
Network with clients and maintain client relationships
Some travel will be required
Required Education / Experience
A Bachelor’s degree or a Technology diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering, additional engineering backgrounds will be considered
Five (5) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines
Experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines
Exposure to utility standards, CSA, and an understanding of powerline construction techniques
Ability to work in design teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn the position
The ability to lead and direct a team of engineers, designers and drafters
Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite
Desired Education / Experience
Eight (8) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines
Prior utility design experience or distribution line work is highly preferred
Strong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on the job training
Exposure to non-linear powerline design software such as PLS-CADD
The candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills in the English language in order to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Managerial and leadership experience is an asset
