Job Description

TransitNEXT, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin, was awarded the Trillium Line Extension, part of the City of Ottawa’s Stage 2 LRT Project.

The TransitNEXT team is seeking a dynamic Stakeholder Outreach Coordinator to support its Project communication services.

The Stakeholder Outreach Advisor must be bilingual in French and English and will report to TransitNEXT’s Director of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement.

The successful candidate will support the City of Ottawa as a key resource who will support high-caliber, strategic communication and engagement activities for the Trillium Line Extension Project.

The candidate will play a key role in sustaining a best practice approach to all communication and engagement activities, including best-in-class client relations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO :

  • Implement and sustain the strategies and tactics for which TransitNEXT is responsible in the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Plan;
  • Working closely with the Communications Director and other disciplines within the TransitNEXT team, implement comprehensive communication and engagement activities designed to provide awareness and information about the project, through use of print, electronic and community relations methods;
  • Lead and support the day-to-day communication and engagement activities on-the-ground between TransitNEXT and the public, through attendance at public events and stakeholder meetings, and through prompt response to inquiries;
  • Draft and implement content for weekly construction updates, traffic advisories, web features, newsletters and social media posts;
  • Coordinate day-to-day communications and engagement functions including material assembly, public notification distribution, maintaining dashboards and tracking progress and resolution of inquiries.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of stakeholder events and meetings.
  • Support proactive issues management, media relations strategies and high-profile event management.
  • EXPERIENCE :

    Project Management : Able to conceive and implement projects from start to finish, manage processes and expectations, maintain budgets and key deliverables within tight deadlines.

    Community and Stakeholder Relations : Strong background in community and stakeholder relations with experience that includes but is not limited to : planning and executing public awareness campaigns, hosting public meetings and dealing with questions and concerns from members of the public.

    Research & Writing : Outstanding writer and editor who can use their command of both the English and French languages to create content that is succinct and clear as well as engaging.

    Media : Experience drafting media responses and key messages.

    Event Planning : Planning, budgeting and supporting the smooth execution of large media events.

    Issues Management : Experience identifying and supporting the mitigation and management of issues, particularly those with high public profile.

    Essential Skills / Competencies :

  • Post-secondary degree in Communications or Public Relations (or relevant work experience).
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in communications and relations with stakeholders.
  • Previous work on large or high public profile projects and / or relatable experience in a role that had direct interaction with or impact on stakeholders and the public.
  • Superb written and oral communication skills in French and English and a professional demeanor.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks effectively with exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and follow through.
  • Team player who works well in a multi-functional team and in an environment where priorities and deadlines can change and performs well under pressure
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively source information, obtain approvals and build relationships.
  • Must have a vehicle and be able to drive and walk along the project corridor throughout the project.
