Job Description

The Integrated Financial Solutions (IFS) team delivers and maintains best-in-class Enterprise focused financial reporting and treasury systems and tools centred around the Global Finance ERP, Infor.

The department is a hybrid business / IS organization structure that brings together staff specializing in several disciplines : IT, project management, business / financial analysis, people, system, process change management, and end user training.

The IT side of the team reports up to the Group CIO and the business side of the team up to the Group Controller and Chief Accounting Officer.

IFS team members are drivers of change, enabling Finance to meet our Mission as a highly impactful, data-centric and decision-driven team by :

  • Leading and implementing global finance solutions
  • Leading Finance through data modernization and digitization
  • Working with segment finance and treasury team to find solutions to align finance processes globally
  • Providing support for finance data initiatives both global and segment specific
  • Providing 24x7 support and availability of our finance tools
  • Ensuring overall data governance and controls
  • The business side has 4 main streams (a) data architecture (b) governance and controls and (c) implementation (Treasury and Reporting).

    Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for the Financial Processes Implementation team focusing on supporting various projects from Group Finance, Expenses, Actuarial, and all other Segments and functions by providing solutions that support Manulife’s Single Source Vision .

    This involves working with other cross-geographic and functional teams to ensure any financial system solutions / changes support Group Finance goals and objectives while ensuring the integrity and quality of financial data.

    Common elements will include supporting projects involving system improvements, solving problems, finding opportunities for increased effectiveness or efficiency in financial processes, and responding to requests from our global user community.

  • Projects range from new feeds to the ledger due to source system changes, changes required for reporting (segment changes, IFRS17) and improvements in tools, processes
  • Act as Project Manager on small to medium sized change initiatives including preparing key project documents, evaluating alternatives and recommending approach
  • Key projects currently underway are (a) IFRS17 (new reporting requirements and source system changes from actuarial and admin systems) (b) Major changes to source systems - Last conversion;
  • GBNow; payroll system.

  • Ensure user test environments set up appropriately and results are appropriate
  • Assess business requirements and specification documents, with the Data Architecture stream, to ensure they align with IFS Application and set up (no customization) and Group Finance strategic goals and objectives.
  • Oversee enhancements of existing production tools and processes related to reporting systems (not treasury) to promote continuous development of analytical capability across the enterprise based on best practices,
  • Provide timely and professional communication and training to key stakeholders to facilitate change management
  • Consult with business partners on project and / or business needs, identifying opportunities for operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Engage, encourage, and develop a staff of business analysts who conduct business analysis, system analysis, project management, and production support
  • Build and maintain detailed and accurate documentation of procedures for control and training
  • Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in operational or business functions.
  • Professional designation (MBA or CPA)
  • Other Skills Required :

  • Knowledge of Smartview / Essbase and / or multi-dimensional data marts
  • Working knowledge of financial systems, particularly General Ledger and Treasury Cash Management.
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, handle multiple demands and challenging priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a customer service focus
  • Capable self-starter who takes initiative to tackle problems and streamlines processes

  • Ability to manage to deadlines, which are often impacted by changes upstream in the chain. Requires good communication skills to ensure end-to-end impact is known.
