We have an exciting opportunity for an occupational health and safety professional with a focus in health care to join our Industry and Labour Services team to engage and educate industry to make work safer.

At WorkSafeBC, Industry and Labour Services is a consultative-based department, servicing primarily external client organizations, including employer and labour groups, associations, and other related institutions.

Its primary responsibility is to help these groups take an active role in occupational health and safety, which ultimately will help reduce the industry injury rate and claims costs.

What you'll do

Industry specialists take a proactive approach in understanding and analyzing specific industry needs regarding the development of short and long term occupational health and safety strategies.

You'll provide leadership in identifying and implementing innovative injury prevention initiatives, take part in industry events (hosting tradeshow booths and delivering presentations), develop educational materials, and participate on various working groups and committees to support health care stakeholders prevent worker injury and disease.

  • Network and build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop innovative industry-wide occupational health and safety strategies
  • Provide health care industry stakeholders with industry and occupational health and safety knowledge, expertise, and guidance
  • Research, recommend, evaluate, and monitor industry related projects and funding proposals
  • Work directly with industry associations, the public sector, and employer and labour representatives
  • Exhibit superior verbal and written communication skills, and exceptional organizational skills
  • Present and speak confidently in public
  • Work directly with WorkSafeBC's industry safety association for the development of occupational health and safety strategies
  • Work directly with WorksafeBC's certifying partners to ensure the quality of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program
  • Your experience and educational background :

  • A university degree or diploma in a discipline related to health and safety and / or health care
  • A minimum of nine years of work experience in a position within the health care industry, demonstrating a broad knowledge of employer, labour, and workplace safety issues (Note : an equivalent combination of education and years of experience will be considered)
  • Expertise in occupational health and safety principles and practices and general prevention strategies
  • Knowledge of health care practices and safety issues relevant to health care workplaces
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel
