Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated, personable, and very organized Intermediate Wildlife Biologist in our Calgary, AB office.

  • As a talented and ambitious professional, you will be working in a multi-disciplinary technical team on environmental regulations across a variety of sectors;
  • championing project planning, data collection & analysis; and authoring technical reports. You will also work directly with clients and project management team throughout the life of development projects.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    Collaborating with team members and clients on the application of environmental regulations, guidelines, and beneficial management practices across a variety of sectors

    Performing in a client-facing role providing guidance, solutions-focused counsel, and post-filing support as required

    Staying abreast of existing and emerging wildlife regulations pertinent to our business

    Working in a construction support role; liaising with the project Proponent, Environmental Inspector, technical lead, and field crew(s)

    Participating in a collaborative team environment and under deadlines in wilderness and outdoor settings, and able to work independently with minimal supervision

    Traveling to the field 14 days at a time or longer and working 12-hour days (including evenings, weekends, and holidays) under a variety of conditions

    Leading and participating in data entry, analysis and management including report preparation

    Conducting a variety of wildlife related field work

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    Proven technical, communication, writing and organization skills

    Proficient in MS Office applications

    Able to lift 50lbs and endure long days of physically and mentally challenging field work while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitude

    Excellent navigational skills and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in the field

    Good driving record and valid Class 5 driver’s license are required

    Able to work in a dynamic environment under deadlines

    Familiarity with relevant provincial and federal regulations and guidelines

    Strong work ethic, sense of humour, and desire for team success

    Education and Experience

    Diploma or degree (degree preferred) in biology or conservation, environmental biology, ecology, and / or environmental sciences (or related field)

    Professionally accredited (P.Biol., R.P.Bio)

    5-10 years of professional consulting experience demonstrating responsibility and leadership growth

    Experience conducting field surveys in Alberta

    Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include remote work, long drives, 2 week away from home shifts, and exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
