The Health Care Aide provides personal support services to clients primarily in a lodge setting, to enable clients to maintain or regain independence and to age in place rather than seeking alternative care arrangements.

The Health Care Aid is the liaison between the client and the professional health care staff.

Hours of work may include days, evenings, weekends and occasional nights as required.


  • Implements individual client care plans as outlined by Alberta Health Services Case Managers, providing personal care, bathing assistance, dressing, transferring, repositioning and ambulation, specialized procedures and treatments such as medication assistance, wound care, oxygen therapy, rehabilitative exercises, ostomy and catheter, end-of-life care
  • Provides emotional support to clients and families, which includes listening, empathy and client advocacy
  • Informs supervisor of unusual occurrences or changes in client condition, maintain daily notes in the lodge communication book
  • Attends in-service and training sessions
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to remain calm and reassuring
  • Strong interpersonal skills, combined with empathy and respect for confidentiality
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to quickly changing conditions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of an aging population and the aging process
  • Qualifications

  • Certification from an approved Health Care Aide program
  • Previous home support experience is an asset
  • Conditions of Employment

  • Vulnerable sector check
  • Current CPR is an asset
  • Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work
  • Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
