Our Toronto Office is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant will be a key player in managing the region's accounting transactions, statutory reporting requirements and joint venture reporting.

They will work closely with the Shared Services Center and Global Arup Finance team, as well as accounting, tax, and legal firms to identify and implement process improvements and documentation and assist in complying with the region's regulations.

This role will not only provide beneficial support for the finance operations but will also play a significant role in business operations.

The successful candidate will be eager to both dig into the details, perform an independent research on various areas of tax compliance and technical accounting and view operations at a high level to create process efficiency.

Responsibilities :

The Senior Accountant will be directly reporting to the Statutory Finance Manager. The role will also require significant partnering with other teams.

They will handle many day-to-day activities related to account reconciliations, audit deliverables and preparation of the financial statements as well as monthly financial reporting.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Statutory reporting : compile financial statements reporting packages under IFRS. Coordinate external audit with auditor
  • Joint venture : accounting, financial statement reporting and process documentation preparation
  • Rent : liaise with Regional Facilities Lead to oversee real-estate lease / sublease contracts and tenant allowances, prepare amortization schedules and review monthly journal entries
  • Month-end accounting close : assist with month-end closings including account analyses and reconciliations
  • Executive reporting and analysis : perform & present detailed variance analysis
  • Other tax and legal tasks : assist with tax process documentation and research
  • International Assignee account reconciliations - work with Global Mobility team and Shared Services Center to manage international assignee account balances
  • Provide cross functional assistance to other teams to support new and ongoing business initiatives
  • Provide other ad hoc support as needed on company projects and initiatives
  • Qualifications :

  • Minimum 3 years of financial accounting and tax experience dealing with month-end close, tax compliance, and financial reporting
  • Knowledge of tax and IFRS
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Public accounting experience and / or CPA license (or equivalent) or CPA license in process
  • Prior experience working with offshore teams is preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience in preparing process notes & documentation
  • Attention to detail and inquisitive mind
