Maxxam has an opportunity for a Laboratory Supervisor at one of our remote laboratories. The supervisor will be responsible for leading teams of about 10 people.

Supervisors are key players in instituting corporate Quality and Safety policies and ensuring that our client’s analytical and service needs are met by training employees and managing their performance.

  • Act as technical resource for laboratory staff
  • Work with Quality Assurance staff / Manager to address corrective actions for analytical issues and internal audits
  • Monitor turnaround time (TAT) and production targets to ensure deadlines and customer expectations are met; adjust work procedures, work flow and resources as required
  • Lead and develop staff; this includes recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, and working jointly with employees in the development of their career path
  • Daily interaction with the client; provides accurate, consistent and timely information about ongoing projects as well as rush orders
  • Communicate and ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance (QA) protocols are followed
  • Co-ordinate requests or recommend resource planning
  • Model and enforce high standards of work practices and safety conscious behavior
  • Ensure staff comply with all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Measure and report effectiveness of department activities to manager on a regular basis
  • Develop relationships with internal departments and determine how the operation can meet and exceed their expectations
  • You are the ideal LABORATORY SUPERVISOR if :

  • Post-secondary education in a related field ie. Chemical Technology diploma
  • You have at least 5 years in a leadership role in an analytical laboratory, preferably in the petroleum field.
  • Have a proven ability to organize employees and workflow to maximize production and maintain expected TAT.
  • Have a strong sense of customer service with a proven ability to effectively and appropriately address client concerns.
  • Have the ability to operate independently, while meeting corporate and client targets for data delivery, Quality practices and adherence to Safety standards and protocols.
  • Possess excellent up-to-date knowledge of laboratory processes, analytical techniques and LIMS.
  • Knowledge of ASTM / UOP methodology and quality control practices is preferred.
  • Location : Remote Lab
  • Fly In / Fly Out Site
  • 11-on, 9-off Shift, 12 hour work days (Day 1 fly in and work 8 hours, Day 11 work 4 hours and fly out). Alternating day / night shifts.
  • Transportation to and from site will be provided (originating from Edmonton or Calgary).
  • On-site camp accommodations and meals will be provided.
