Job Description :

The AVP, Security Initiatives, Training & Awareness will lead Sun Life’s global Security Business Office, the Security Delivery Office and the Security Training & Awareness Program for Cyber Security, Physical Security, Risk, and Crisis Management.

Sun Life’s Security, Risk and Crisis Management (SRC) programs need to move quickly to ensure preparedness for external threats and ensure system management is top tier.

Sun Life is also expanding internationally through merger and acquisition activity which will drive growth in Cybersecurity and the need for enhanced security programs.

You will manage and grow a global Information Security program team accountable for program delivery, training and awareness, and financial management of these programs.

The role :

Lead the Information Security Initiatives and PMO

  • Provide leadership to the PMO and Analyst team. Lead and engage a Delivery Organization spread across multiple locations in Canada, Ireland and the US.
  • The team includes PMO Leaders, Project Managers and Business Analysts.

  • Ensure program delivery on all key initiatives globally. Ensure compliance with key governance practices. Participate and drive security project roadmaps to fill gaps, develop plan of actions, develop and socialize business cases for projects.
  • Perform knowledge management functions relevant to the information security programs inclusive of tools and templates used to implement the various programs.

  • Reporting in various forums enabling leaders to easily understand the status of the security initiatives / programs at any time.
  • Develop and maintain strong financial and procurement acumen

  • Developing, communicating, and managing a robust project intake mechanism
  • Establishing cost estimation practices
  • Work with Finance partners to ensure budgets are set, managed, and reported on
  • Drive Annual Investment planning cycles for Security, Risk & Crisis Management
  • Track and manage contract renewals
  • Negotiate new and renewing contracts
  • Liaise with Procurement and Legal on contracts
  • Partner will all Security, Risk & Crisis management leaders to review financials and review contract requirements
  • Manage overall budget of $50M+
  • Implement a strong global training and awareness program

  • Provide leadership to the Security, Risk and Crisis Management Training and Awareness team.
  • Ensure a roadmap and strategy is in place for Global Training and Awareness
  • Management and delivery of Sun Life’s Global Security Awareness and Training Program
  • global coordination and collaboration to drive change through awareness
  • facilitate security training programs targeted at Sun Life employees and SRC staff
  • Your Skills :

  • Successful project management including the implementation of multiple concurrent security projects in an Enterprise environment.
  • Expert business knowledge ( client's business products, services & organization) and expert knowledge of related technology industry, products and processes.
  • These include Intrusion Prevention Systems, Denial of Service protection, Security Incident and Event Management, Web and Email filtering systems

  • You will have experience leading a multi-site / global IT team in a mid to large sized organization, and focused on delivering business solutions.
  • Prior experience working in a matrix organizational model, and supporting clients in multiple cities / countries
  • The ability to apply technology to improve the timeliness, accuracy, quality and cost effectiveness of information and services
  • Managing Others : Directs and leads others to accomplish organizational goals and objectives
  • Coaching and Developing Others : Mentoring advising, assisting, and providing feedback to others to encourage and inspire the development of work-related competencies and long-term career growth

  • Ability to manage across multiple stakeholders and geographies representing strategy, principles, and processes. The incumbent will be responsible for resolving conflicts that arise within the various deliverables, pulling utilizing standard change management processes, providing options to key stakeholders and ensuring effective communication of decisions across all affected parties.
  • Strategy communication, decision making, influence, relationship building and change management will be critical skills given the significant amount of change and large number of stakeholders involved globally.
  • Strong organization and planning skills, complimented by knowledge of project management practices, disciplines, tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to lead a portfolio of parallel initiatives that span multiple years and require support from various independent IT teams.

  • Strong knowledge of security training and awareness programs.
  • Experience developing strategic plans in alignment with business objectives, and establishing a decision making framework to support future delivery in accordance with those plans.
  • Heavy engagement with business leaders, to understand their priorities and deliver technology solutions that address those needs.
  • Technology solutions will be client-facing (third party asset management clients).

  • You are resourceful and creative and aligned with the current InfoSec threat landscape.
  • Strong knowledge of financial and procurement practices, with ability to manage budgets in excess of $50M.

  • The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.

    In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
