Narcity.com is currently looking for a motivated and meticulous Copy Editor to join our rapidly expanding editorial team.

The Copy Editor will play a pivotal role in our daily operation in English.

We are seeking an editor who loves clear and conversational language and excels at working with young and enthusiastic writers.

Narcity Copy Editors are as invested in double-checking the addresses of brunch spots in Toronto as they are translating Texas legislation into something millennials will engage with.

If you cringe over your friend's DM grammar and love a conversational writing style, this position is for you.

  • POSITION TYPE

    This is a full-time contract, remote position. The Copy Editor must be able to work closely with writers and editors across Canada and the United States.

    Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Quickly reading articles to ensure they are accurate, properly-cited, well-written and up-to-date
  • Correcting grammar, including spelling, syntax and styling of text
  • Understand and apply basic legal considerations regarding copyright, trademark usage, and photo use
  • Line editing articles when necessary and making sure formatting is consistent with Narcity Editorial standards
  • Revising, editing and occasionally translating official Narcity Media documents
  • Working with editors and writers to make sure errors and adjustments are properly communicated to teams
  • Creating and maintaining the Narcity Media style guide
  • REQUIREMENTS

  • At least six months of professional copy editing or proofreading experience at a digital news publisher and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field
  • Excellent written English, including spelling and gramma
  • Excellent written French preferred but not essential
  • Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong familiarity with various style guides, especially AP Style
  • Good judgment, ability to work without supervision, and skilled at multitasking
  • Availability to work full-time, Monday through Friday starting at 9 AM EST
