The School of Creative Arts is seeking an interdisciplinary scholar to teach in the Media Arts and Visual Arts programs at the rank of Assistant Professor.

In addition, candidates should be able to contribute to the Bachelor of Media Arts program, for example, by teaching courses like introduction to media arts, professional practices, or portfolio development.
The successful candidate will develop new curriculum and teach in their own specific areas of expertise; the School is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas : sound design or sound art, motion graphics, visual effects, animation, game design, applications of virtual reality, and concept art.
The preferred candidate will have the ability to teach in highly interdisciplinary and innovative contexts, integrating practice and theory in the courses they teach.

this may include generating industry partnerships leading to co-op or internships, curating strong connections with industry partners, organizing opportunities to showcase students’ work to industry partners, leading field trips, and bringing in guest speakers.
They should be personable, organized, and a strong liaison between the School and industry and artistic partners. The ability to attract research or industry funding to support knowledge development, whether through infrastructure, research grants, capital purchase funding, is an asset.
The successful candidate will contribute to a vibrant interdisciplinary arts community in the School of Creative Arts. The position requires outstanding conflict resolution and communication skills, project management skills, self-motivation and the ability to take initiative, and the ability to get others excited and involved in projects and events.
The successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in service within the School and the University.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a program of scholarly activity appropriate to a teaching-mandated university, including involving students in research activities, and disseminating knowledge in ways that enhance the communities at UFV and in the Fraser Valley.
Evidence of scholarly activity, such as invited presentations at conferences and publication in appropriate, peer-reviewed journals, is an asset.
A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or equivalent terminal degree is required. The successful candidate will have substantial professional and technical experience in film / video production or a relevant area of digital media arts, with evidence of strong leadership skills, and will demonstrate the ability to develop a research program with a strong creative or applied component.
