Role Description

The Senior Big Data Platform Specialist is responsible for leading the complete lifecycle of a new or modified software product or integrated systems from research and design to managing the production implementation, training and support.

The Senior Big Data Platform Specialist champions and contributes to the development of standards, tools, processes and best practices.

This role applies advanced knowledge to complex work and supports project and operations teams by sharing skills and mentoring.

This role leads the work to implement solutions to complex problems, which may be done independently or through leading or supporting the collaboration with other stakeholders.

We are looking for an experienced Big Data professional with strong technical background in administration of Big Data and related technologies (like Hadoop, Snowflake, Cloud Data Platforms in Azure, Google, AWS solution space).

You will be part of a dedicated technical team that delivers complex solutions using Big Data, Traditional Database, Data Management and Data Integration tools.

You will also leverage your technical savviness and understanding of SDLC to support delivery of solutions in an agile manner by leveraging adjacent and complementary technologies.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about data and driven to learn about them and keep up with market evolution. They possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills, are comfortable working remotely with colleagues and clients, and understand software development and / or configuration principles.

Accountabilities :

  • Installing, configuring, maintaining, and securing big data platforms
  • Scope and support delivery of Big Data Solutions
  • Supporting both project and operations teams
  • Develop capabilities and patterns for loading from disparate data sets
  • Understanding of database theories, structures, categories, properties, and best practices
  • Qualifications and Competencies :

  • University or College education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ year experience in big data platforms like Hortonworks / Cloudera Distributed File Systems (HDFS) / Snowflake etc.
  • Experience in supporting Big Data technologies like : Spark, Hive, HBase, PIG, Ranger, Kafka, Sqoop, CDC, etc.
  • Experience in Cloud data platforms like Azure, Google, AWS
  • Technical experience with large relational databases (MS SQL, DB2, Oracle etc.)
  • Strong SQL skills to perform data analysis and writing complex, highly-optimized queries across large volumes of data
  • Proven experience of architecting and building complex data solutions
  • Strong experience in developing and maintaining ETL / ELT routines using various data integration platforms (Ab Initio, Data Stage, Syncsort, etc.)
  • Background in Unix and Windows integrated environments including scripting, batch processing etc.
  • Knowledge of OOP languages like Java, C++, and Python
  • Ability to show flexibility, initiative, and innovation when dealing with ambiguous and fast paced situations by taking advantage of technology
  • Experience in financial services industry
  • Experience with tools like Syncsort, Collibra, SAS & Tableau etc.
  • Experience with R programming
  • Experience with shell scripting and batch programming
