Under the general direction of the Payroll Lead, the Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for preparing and administering payroll for all Mircom employees on a bi-weekly basis.
Integrity and strong attention to detail is crucial for this role.
Key Responsibilities :
Process bi-weekly payroll for 450 Canadian employees (hourly and salaried)
Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 70 US employees using Paychex software
Process US Certified Payroll on a weekly basis
Process new hires, terminations, and status changes
Process employee expenses on the Concur platform
Administer the company’s benefit program, ensuring timely updates to Manulife and Paychex
RRSP benefits administration
Operate as first point of contact for employees regarding any payroll or benefits inquiries and effectively handle all issues in a confidential and timely manner
Ensure all wages are paid accurately and in a timely fashion in accordance with corporate policies and all applicable legislation
Prepare records of employment
Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes, in accordance with statutory requirements
Administer wage garnishment requests and remit payments to government agencies
Year-end filings for T4s and RL-1s
Vacation / absence tracking
Collaborate with the HR staff to ensure pay and personnel records are accurate and up to date
Sort and distribute pay stubs on a bi-weekly basis
Support coordination of all Payroll & Benefits related internal initiatives or projects.
Other duties as assigned by the Payroll Lead
Requirements and Skills :
A University or College Diploma in a related field
3-5 years’ experience in a Payroll & Benefits position
Strong knowledge of payroll systems, internal controls, etc.
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification with the Canadian Payroll Association
Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now (WFN)
Proficiency with Paychex would be an asset
Exposure and knowledge of US payroll will be considered an asset
Good computer skills; must have strong Excel skills (v-lookup, pivot tables, etc.) to prepare ad hoc reports
Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; must respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor.
Must have very strong attention to detail
Highly organized with effective time management skills
Ability to deal with confidential information with high degree of professionalism
Highly conscientious, along with an energetic and mature approach to his or her work
Must be a team-player
