What is the opportunity?

RBC Mid Market M&A is the largest dedicated Mid Market M&A team among Canadian banks, and is part of the National Client Group.

The team is focused on providing advice with respect to divestitures, acquisitions, and buyouts or private companies. The team has experienced steady growth and is seeking an experienced M&A professional to join the Toronto team to support continued growth.

As a senior level Mergers and Acquisitions professional based in Toronto, this role will be responsible for interacting with business owners at companies in the Ontario market and with RBC colleagues to identify, pitch, win and close M&A mandates.

You will work both independently and in conjunction with other members of RBC Royal Bank to build a sustainable business.

We are looking for someone who has extensive experience dealing with entrepreneurial clients, has a proven track record of building trust through collaboration and delivering value added advice with confidence, and winning business in competitive situations.

What will you do?

  • Network internally and externally to build awareness of RBC Mid Market M&A in Ontario
  • Develop relationships with business owners and build / maintain a pipeline of potential M&A mandates
  • Conduct regular meetings and presentations with internal partners in Commercial Banking, Capital Markets, and Wealth Management
  • Conduct business development activities to originate M&A mandates, lead the pitches, win the mandates and complete the transactions
  • Manage preparation of marketing and other transaction related materials
  • Champion high standards of professionalism in all aspects of engagement
  • Assist clients with navigating the process of negotiating and closing a transaction
  • Supervise and train junior staff
  • Work with other members of the RBC Royal Bank team in support of activities that enhance RBC Royal Bank and build its brand
  • Must-have

  • Candidates must be experienced, entrepreneurial professionals with significant M&A experience and relationships and knowledge of the market
  • Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to successfully originate, win and close mandates related to the group’s advisory services and share a passion for working with privately held, owner-
  • manager based businesses.

  • Strong preference for professionals with previous M&A experience, with high quality standards and an honest, thoughtful approach to developing and extending RBC client relationships.
  • Strong comprehension of Canadian accounting standards, legal and tax principles as they apply to M&A situations
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to execute transactions from start to finish
  • Experience with and desire to work on mid-market transactions
  • Post-secondary education would include MBA, CPA, CFA and or CBV
  • Strong network of local / regional relationships with private equity firms and relevant legal counsel
