New Full-Time Support Staff Position (Please note, Full-Time Support Staff will be given first consideration)

Responsibilities :

The incumbent is a customer service professional providing comprehensive frontline services and support to students and faculty out of our libraries, mainly at the Waterloo campus.

  • Provides blended frontline service to the Conestoga community including service at the Information and Research Desk and / or Tech Bar
  • Provides in-person and online reference services for Conestoga students, faculty, staff and the community, which involves interviewing, interpreting requirements, and establishing level and detail of information needed, plus guides users in the inquiry and research process
  • Using the integrated library system (ILS), loans materials and maintains / updates accounts, plus books media and technology
  • Offers technology assistance as part of TeachMeTech and Tech Bar services including access issues, hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Provides training to students on productivity tools such as Microsoft Office or other College support software
  • Offers basic support on assistive technology and refers to the Learning Technology Liaison as appropriate
  • Provides a range of academic support services which may include offering guidance and utilizing available resources for : citing and referencing, the academic integrity process, learning / study skills, technology, and digital skills
  • Conducting a review of past and present learning strengths and challenges, assists students in identifying and enhancing learning preferences while compensating for deficits
  • Offers informed referral to other College services including assistance navigating resources (websites) and booking appointments
  • Engages in planning discussions, campus, and library services team meetings, promotional activities, and other administrative activities that support frontline service delivery
  • Works closely with the Manager of Access and Education, Campus Library Coordinator, Program Liaisons or other Specialists to support the delivery of workshops.
  • Based on subject matter and resource availability, this may include : liaising and referring the delivery to a Program Liaison or Specialist and / or supporting the delivery of a session by another staff member

  • Library activities, committee work & projects as assigned
  • Qualifications :

  • Two year diploma in Library Services
  • Two years of current, relevant experience in a library setting, preferably in an academic library
  • Demonstrated workshop facilitation support
  • Experience working in an educational environment assisting students with learning strategies to maximize their potential
  • Demonstration of ability to apply adult learning principles
  • Experience working with students who face learning barriers including students with learning disabilities is preferred
  • Experience assisting students with learning strategies to maximize their potential would be an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of learning styles and ability to adjust instructional style to individual learning styles
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Dedication to customer service
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Problem-analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple demands and changing priorities
  • Must be able to travel between campuses
