This is a professional counselling, direct care and custodial position within a designated Secure Custody and Remand Youth Corrections Facility.
Employees of this class are responsible for : planning, organizing and directing the implementation and delivery of all rehabilitative programs and activities for residents during an assigned shift.
S / he will consult with other professional and line staff; participate in the case planning process; perform counselling and intervention practices and interview offenders upon admissions.
S / he will be responsible for the supervision of youth in a secure custody setting and conduct shift-by-shift security checks of all resident living areas and facility grounds, personal security searches and apply mechanical restraints in accordance with the Security Risk Classification System;
establish and maintain acceptable standards of social and behavioral conduct and rehabilitation; supervise and guide residents on acceptable standards.
S / he would be responsible for youth in the community on the Pre-Trial Services Bail Supervision Program. This would also include taking a leadership role in maintaining positive relationships;
applying approved custodial, rehabilitative, developmental treatment and recreational plans and adhering to acceptable standards of direct care for adolescents.
This work is performed independently within established policies and procedures and is reviewed by the Shift Manager and the Administrator through discussions, review of reports and analysis of results obtained.
Other duties may also be performed as required.
Degree in Social Sciences (equivalences will be considered)
Experience working with adolescents
Experience with secure custody best practices and procedures (asset)
Experience working with adolescents in a residential setting (asset)
