Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Development, the Director, Market Segmentation & Intelligence will work on market mapping and segmentation to identify potential targets for acquisition as part of OpenText’s inorganic growth strategy.

Working closely with the VPs and Directors, M&A to produce comprehensive potential target lists and analysis, regular market segmentation reports and ongoing market intelligence reports, including the creation of compelling presentation materials for senior management and board purposes, and ensuring alignment of these projects with the broader Corporate Development strategy.

You are great at :

  • Independent research and consolidation of broad informational inputs into succinct and effective communications
  • Mapping the EIM universe of companies, including companies within OT's orbit and related adjacencies of interest, with a view to identifying acquisition targets
  • Monitoring M&A activity across the EIM landscape, alerting internal stakeholders, providing quarterly summaries
  • Familiarity with key sources of market information and data and the ability to build and maintain a network to enhance market segmentation and intelligence activities
  • Collaborating with stakeholders within CorpDev and the business (Sales, Product Marketing / Management, Engineering) to create thematic views of the market
  • Developing qualitative and quantitative assessments and summaries of these various markets and companies to equip leadership with indispensable insights, advice and tools to achieve their mission-critical priorities
  • that are suitable for consumption by different internal audiences
  • Developing insightful and actionable content, including compelling PowerPoint presentations, writing effective prose and oral communication
  • Developing and maintaining database of potential target companies
  • Effectively leading a small team to achieve important mandate
  • Managing multiple priorities in an organized and effective manner
  • Working in a high-pressure environment and being responsive to tight timelines
  • Being responsible for fostering an open and inclusive work environment
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of hands-on experience gained within one or more of the following contexts : corporate development, investment banking, transaction advisory services within the big four accounting firms, private equity, or venture capital, preferably in software / technology / information services or a related industry.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading a team
  • Being a self-starter, strong project manager and having the ability to conceptualize initiatives from the 60,000 foot level, but plan execution down to detailed deliverables
  • Highly motivated to continually explore and create opportunities for "value add"
  • Demonstrable ability to synthesize and communicate information effectively and strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrable understanding of and familiarity with OpenText’s TAM and relevant segments
  • Comfort with leveraging Capital IQ, Factset, 451, market analysis and ranking tools and similar data sources for M&A professionals
  • Highly proficient in using PowerPoint and proven ability to develop compelling presentations, writing effective prose and being articulate in delivering the same to audiences of varying seniority
  • Strong work ethic, with an effective combination of business acumen, sound decision-making, and a bias for action; ability to act in a decisive, urgent and committed way to achieve results;
  • remain focused on deliverables and leverage resources to reach goals

  • Ability to excel in a high pressure, high velocity environment and strike a balance between planned / routine activities and ad hoc requests
  • Effective at building strong and collaborative internal and external relationships and professional networks
  • Four year post-secondary degree
