With significant executive championing and profile, the role of AVP Strategy & Transformation for our Canadian Segment is one of influence and opportunity.

The AVP Strategy & Transformation will captain a high caliber team covering large-scale transformation strategy development, planning, communications, and monitoring / reporting to drive successful delivery of the overall strategic mandate for Manulife Canada.

You will craft and deploy the planning process and deliverables for the program including change management and communications.

This role is also responsible for driving the execution alignment to priorities, high-risk initiatives and financial plans.

You will exercise your well-developed relationship, communication and influencing skills through deep collaboration across the business and functions to ensure shared vision and sustained momentum in a complex environment of numerous programs, projects, key deliverables and partners on regional and global scales.

Responsibilities :

  • Partner with the Head of Strategy & Transformation, CEO Manulife Canada, and the Canada Leadership Team, to develop the Canada Market strategy.
  • Set the ambition and priorities required to achieve that ambition. Define KPIs and support their operationalization. Assess market position versus competition, industry and customers trends

  • Develop strategy communications to various key audiences : Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Manulife Board, investors, rating agencies, employees
  • Cascade and align organization to strategy, leveraging the financial plan, business plans, CEO communications strategy, annual goals setting, and projects business casing.
  • Coordinate prioritization to ensure effective aligned to our strategic priorities; ensure highest potential businesses receive disproportionate share of spend.

    Lead the Outcome Delivery Process (ODF; business case process) to ensure change spend is directed to our most strategically important initiatives

  • Develop the transformation roadmap that tracks work across business lines and functions required to deliver transformation to a digital, customer leader.
  • Understand interdependencies, sequencing, and risks to ensure we are best positioned to effectively execute our strategy

  • Provide oversight and reporting to track the execution of the strategy, monitor and report on what is working and not working.
  • Leverage automation and digitization. Provide transparency of key milestones, risks and progress. Challenge escalation and resolution - identify challenges in execution, escalate and rally organization to drive resolution.

  • Lead and participate in special strategy projects that directly deliver value to the organization
  • Knowledge / Skills / Competencies / Education :

  • Strong business focus and understanding to represent intent of the transformation appropriately
  • 10+ years progressive experience with large-scale transformations / change management within large multi-national corp.
  • Able to influence senior leadership team members individually and collectively, and highlight instances where the intent is at risk and explain why
  • Identify when early trade offs are needed and be able to influence decision makers to make difficult decisions
  • Regarded as a realistic and practical individual, and is respected for ability to deliver
  • Must be a master facilitator and communicator
  • Must be observant to pick up clues and able to connect diverse facts to surface issues
  • High level of conceptual skills and an ability to operate strategically
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse environments and cultures
