Aboriginal Infant Development Consultant

Our client is looking for an Infant Development Consultant to support infant and child development while making home visits with families.

As the successful candidate in this role, you will maintain a client caseload, assessing child development, and providing playgroup facilitation.

What an Infant Development Consultant does :

  • Attends home visits with families of children to assess child development and plan programming with the parents to enhance their child's development
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Indigenous Culture and supports traditional teachings and practices
  • Acts as a resource to parents related to appropriate cultural parenting practices
  • Makes appropriate referrals for additional assessments and supports
  • Administers development assessments and provides recommendations
  • Understands the typical range of child growth and development and offers parents the support to develop effective parenting skills
  • Maintains accurate case files and case management
  • Works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and network with other resources to promote holistic health and wellness within the family system and environment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities you need for this role :

  • Awareness of Indigenous cultures and issues affecting First Nations Peoples
  • Possesses an Infant Development certificate, CYC, FNCYC, ECE training or equivalent. (IF you do not have this education requirement, you MUST be willing to gain this qualification.)
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in infant development or a related field
  • Demonstrates skills in report writing and documentation.
  • Due to the physical requirements of the work, the successful candidate must spend a major portion of the workday standing, walking, and / or sitting as well as bending and stretching.
  • Be able to work independently and be reliable and self-motivated
  • Relates well with families, coworkers, other professionals
  • Acts as a role model for healthy lifestyle choices and demonstrates respect for people of all ages
  • Ability to use a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • MUST have BC class 5 driver's license and a clean driving record. (Recent driver's abstract required.)
  • MUST provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal record check
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities and / or non-profit organizations
  • SALARY : $20.67 - 21.67 per hour
