SUMMARY

The Elevator Systems Specialist is an expert in the field and has gained this level of expertise by working directly in the vertical transportation industry for many years.

They know the ins and outs of the industry and will provide the client account with affordable access to years of highly technical and code related training to oversee the elevator inventory in the National Capital Region (NCR), for the benefit of the client and riding public.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance and Elevators Performance

  • Performs maintenance evaluations on the equipment. This can include a full diagnosis of the elevator, how well it has been maintained, the life expectancy of the unit and future capital planning expenses that might be required to keep the units at optimal performance.
  • Builds strong partnerships with maintenance providers.
  • Oversees any work required to bring the elevators up to current code, modern day design and optimal performance. This can include everything from a cab interior upgrade to a full mechanical and aesthetics upgrade package.
  • Coordinates bids from contractors and evaluates the most responsive bids. Evaluates the performance of a contractor during or after installation or testing of the equipment.
  • Monitors and manages inspection due dates.
  • Tracks when inspections are due and what type of inspection is required in order to ensure compliance. They will also witness the 5-year full load tests required under the MCP program.
  • Meets with the Property Management team after each inspection to go over the report and provides next steps in the event there are violations that need correction.
  • The Elevator Specialist will have expertise in all areas of vertical transportation projects including design, construction, maintenance, and modernization of all types and vintages of equipment.
  • They may also oversee escalators, dumbwaiters, freight lifts, platform lifts, man lifts, and pretty much any other piece of equipment designed to move people or material up and down.

  • The Specialist will have the required access to the elevator pits and top of cabs to inspect that cleaning maintenance is being performed as per the contract.
  • This is an area not accessible to building technicians.

    Compliance

  • Conducts field inspections, job observations, audits and other types of reviews to monitor compliance to requirements and to identify risks.
  • Communicates observations, non-compliance and risks to stakeholders, and provides and implements corrective and preventative measures to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Prepares and submits compliance reports.
  • As the building owner is the responsible party for ensuring compliance with their local Authority having Jurisdiction, the Elevator Specialist will have the knowledge and experience required to help managers navigate the confusing and cumbersome inspection process in order to make sure the elevators stay in full compliance with the latest elevator code (ANSI A17.
  • 1 / CSA B44) standard by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).

  • Completes the inspection process by providing the required documents to the Authority having Jurisdiction over the elevator inspection for the certificate to be issued.
  • Monitors and enforces compliance to all internal and external requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • College Diploma or University Degree in engineering or closely related field
  • Minimum 10+ years of recent, active and progressively responsible experience in elevator systems engineering, construction, maintenance, and service or repair of elevators as an elevator technician / mechanic / adjuster providing advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team
  • Experience with Elevator contract management or administration
  • Possesses strong knowledge of the industry, the costs, the markups, and the schedules for nearly every type of elevator maintenance project.
  • The Elevator Specialist will have expertise in all areas of vertical transportation projects including design, construction, maintenance, and modernization of all types and vintages of equipment.

  • Elevator companies are constantly changing, and it is important that the Specialist has knowledge of the MCP and Novated contracts so as to hold everyone accountable for the safe and reliable operation of the vertical transportation in a building.
  • An understanding of the MCP is key, the procedures and practices outlined in the MCP document should improve the operation and reliability of the vertical transportation plant

    Licenses and / or Professional Accreditation

  • Valid driver's License
  • Professional Engineer (PENG) or Technologist
