Expense Shared Services, Technology Team is recruiting an experienced and highly motivated Senior Financial Analyst . The successful candidate will gain great insight into Manulife’s technology function, expense close process and data management and will be involved in examining and improving expense management practices.

This role requires keen interest to manage reporting processes; facilitating transparent, trusted, complete, relevant and easily accessible expense information to our clients.

Responsibilities : Reporting to Director Expense Shared Services, Technology Team, the Senior Financial Analyst will focus on supporting the delivery of our mandate as efficiently as possible, including :

  • ensuring the expenses are properly recorded in the ledger
  • producing standardized expense reports
  • ensuring appropriate processes, controls and tools are in place to support the division’s expense management goals, including adherence to company expense policies and practices
  • The role will focus on the following :

  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Perform monthly expense trending analysis by accounts, work areas & business units
  • Ensure standard monthly expense reports are provided to work area managers on a timely basis and facilitate work area managers expense related queries
  • Drive the process of leveraging automated solutions to streamline expense management processes and reporting. Oversee the design and development of the expense management reporting infrastructure to satisfy management information requirements
  • Proactively meet the reporting needs of Global Technology Expense advisory and analysis teams
  • Perform continuous assessment to ensure simplification, data integrity and standardization of all aspects of the reporting process.
  • Recommend changes to processes & procedures and follow-up to ensure all corrective actions are fully implemented.

  • Set-up strong controls around invoice processing to ensure invoices are validated, recorded and paid on a timely basis and maintain a strong partnership with the offshore invoice processing team.
  • Coordinate with the Client Advisory team to ensure monthly chargeback entries are done on a timely basis
  • Assume complete ownership of select balance sheet accounts to ensure expense booking, validation and reconciliation
  • Ensure we are following internal control environment, including SOX.
  • Adhere to SLA’s for clients to ensure appropriate processes / practices to support reporting requirements
  • Create, implement and maintain accounting operations documentation to provide clarity and consistency
  • Qualifications (Knowledge / Skills / Competencies) :

  • Attained professional accounting designation CPA or an MBA specialized in Accounting / Finance
  • An understanding of Excel skills and knowledge of database applications, Power BI, Lawson, Essbase and enterprise planning tools
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, particularly in the area of using sound, independent judgment, problem-
  • solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent customer focus and commitment to quality
  • Results oriented, able to manage expectations, work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Proven interpersonal skills : build relationships, engages and influences others, work with a diverse customer base
  • Key Problems / Challenges :

  • Expense management and analysis are high priority focus for senior management and senior financial leaders
  • Ability to influence and solicit support and compliance from multiple stakeholders with sometimes conflicting needs and priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
