Valard Construction Telecom Division is seeking qualified Aerial Technician (Tower Rigger) Lead Hand to work on projects in AB, BC, MB and ON.

Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the installation of Telecommunication Tower infrastructure and antenna system
  • Identify and select cables, ropes, blocks and tackle by weight and size of load to be moved, and competent in the use of a Capstan and Winch hoisting equipment
  • Install various ancillary items on a communication tower including waveguide bridges1 ice guards, antenna mounts and transmission line support systems, anti-
  • climbs, lighting systems, fall protection systems, and tower grounding system

  • Review blueprints and drawings and determine the required installation method, tools, and equipment
  • Take a lead role in Aerial Rigging supervision on antenna and cabling, cellular radio, and all work of Riggers on the tower
  • Installation of cellular and microwave antennas, coaxial cables, elliptical waveguide, grounding and weatherproofing in support of microwave and cellular RFDS systems on tower and rooftop structures
  • Perform microwave radio path alignments, antenna orientations, and assist with RF sweeps for lines and antennas per carrier network Methods of Procedure and manufacturer specifications
  • Provide leadership in the communication of and execution of the Valard Construction HS&E safety policies and procedures and conduct daily tailgate meetings
  • Splice, repair and test various types and sizes of telephone and other telecommunication cables including single line, coaxial and fibre optics
  • Inspect, test and troubleshoot telecommunication transmission lines and cables for transmission characteristics and to locate faults
  • Support project and materials management processes ensuring proper collection of project related data and testing results in support project teams
  • Give directions to crane operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads
  • Review all engineering and installation documentation, and cable connection diagrams to prepare for antenna system installations
  • Installation of connectors on coaxial cables, elliptical waveguide, and repair aerial and other telecommunication transmission and distribution lines, cable and associated hardware
  • Requirements

  • Experience supervising a crew
  • Fall Protection and Tower Rescue Certification
  • Must be an effective communicator with crew members in the proper execution of tasks and methods of procedure and provide leadership in the training and development of junior aerial technicians
