Detailed Job Description

Summer 2020

You will work under the direction of the MountainSafety Manager and Team Leads, and will be responsible for monitoring trailconditions, advising on closures, and ensuring the health and safety of allguests and staff.

Youwill :

  • Monitor and report on trail and weather conditions,and advise on run closures / signage.
  • Ensure adequate signs, ropes, gates and pylons aremaintained.
  • Act as first responder in emergency, health orsafety situations and dispatch resources. Including liaising with key contactsin emergency situations, as well as administering first aid treatment andtransitions to emergency personnel.
  • Participate in search and rescue activities.
  • Assist in accident reporting and submission ofnecessary documentation.
  • Ensure all guests and staff adhere to establishedsafety procedures and run closures.
  • Issue warnings to and / or revoke passes fromreckless or irresponsible guests as necessary.
  • Participate in the ongoing development of theemergency procedure & safety program manuals.
  • Comply with all safety regulations of assignedtasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with activeparticipation in the health and safety program.
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programsas required.
  • Performother duties as assigned.
  • You :

  • Hold a current certification in an 80-hour FirstAid program, preferably Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC).
  • Are able to communicate effectively and multi-taskunder stress or time pressure.
  • Are physically able to administer first aidtreatment and have the physical strength and stamina to engage in search andrescue activities.
  • Have the physical strength and stamina to negotiatevaried and difficult terrain on a mountain bike.
  • Are familiar with Kicking Horse Mountain Resort andthe terrain - an asset.
  • Have previous risk management training andexperience - an asset.
  • Have previous organized rescue training - an asset.
  • Have knowledge of the Occupational Health &Safety Regulation, and other legislation regarding the safety of mountainoperations - an asset.
  • Are able to work flexible shifts, includingweekends & holidays, in varying degrees of weather conditions.
