We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated validation engineer who will help the team shake up the world of software development for the Internet of Things.

The Legato team is creating a new application development environment based on Linux and RTOS which will enable the next wave of wireless applications running on the Sierra Wireless platforms.

As a Senior member of the validation team, you are comfortable leading, monitoring testing activities, identifying and mitigating risk, preparing test plans, creating, reviewing and executing test cases, developing test automation tools and scripts, performing manual and automated testing, reporting bugs, troubleshooting defects and mentoring junior team members.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Lead test team activities and day-to-day operations of the team as well mentor junior test engineers
  • Assist in continuous test process improvement, test automation and regression test cycle reduction
  • Track testing progress and results; assist in managing testing schedule, deliverables and improving team performance
  • Track defects discovered and their status, write accurate, detailed test and status reports
  • Identify / mitigate risk(s) and escalate project issues (Software, Firmware, Resources) in a timely manner to Project Manager / Team Manager
  • Collect and analyze quality metrics and update test documents for release readiness review
  • Design and develop manual and automation test plans and test cases according to requirements
  • Review test plan and test cases with internal and external team to ensure complete coverage of targeted features and performance expectations
  • Clearly document and track defects found during testing cycles in bug tracking system
  • Collaborate and coordinate closely with developers, project managers and other teams to analyze requirements and support development team on defect root cause analysis and provide containment solutions as necessary
  • Required Education, Experience & Competencies

  • BSc in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • A creative, quick-learner with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 4 to 8 years of related work experience in software / firmware validation (or in software development) for constrained embedded systems
  • 3 years work experience in embedded Linux and RTOS and drivers (preferably on ARM)
  • 5 years programming experience and strong knowledge of C / C++ and Python
  • Previous experience in writing test automation scripts, generating test plans with Python based test frameworks
  • Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation
  • Works well both independently and in a group
  • Shows initiative and is highly self-motivated
  • Exhibits strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong verbal, written and white-boarding communication skills
  • Desired Education, Experience & Competencies

  • Previous experience with Qualcomm chipsets and ARM processors
  • Experience in testing Linux kernel and Linux Test Project (LTP)
  • Experience with cellular networks and protocols 4. Experience with networking stacks and protocols
  • Experience in testing cellular wireless, WiFi or Bluetooth
  • Experience with one or more RTOSs (e.g. ThreadX, FreeRTOS)
  • Working within an Agile / Scrum environment
