OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently looking to hire a Senior Environment & Regulatory Planner to join our Team. The successful candidate will provide senior support addressing regulatory initiatives and projects of our Western Canadian business, mentorship, and leadership to our Environmental teams, and drive regulatory project growth for new and existing cliental across all target industries.
The successful candidate will bring diverse experience and must enjoy a challenge and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary technical or management degree in a natural resource related field (environmental science, biology, ecology, geology, forestry, or geography) is preferred
Applicable professional designation is considered an asset (P.Bio., P.Ag., etc.)
10+ years in managing and executing regulatory components of small to large projects within the oil & gas (downstream, midstream, upstream, oil sands), mining, renewables, utilities, hydrogen, and industrial service industry
Extensive knowledge of the regulatory processes in Alberta, including EPEA approvals, renewals, amendments, renewable sector regulations, compliance related regulations for industrial, commercial and oil and gas facilities, utilities, and linear developments.
Saskatchewan and British Columbia regulatory experience is considered an asset
Experience leading high-performance teams
Experience in development and management of regulatory submissions
Experience in supplemental information requests (SIR) and statement of concern (SOC) responses and correspondence with regulatory bodies at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels
Proven client liaison experience including, problem solving, personnel management, client expectation management, and continual improvement through process development
Excellent technical writing abilities and verbal communication and the ability to provide strategic direction to advance work
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management, Deliverables, Expectations and Relationships
Management of EPEA regulated projects and associated programs and subsequent reporting
Regulatory applications, amendments and renewals for a multitude of commercial and industrial projects (i.e., oil & gas, renewables, utilities, aggregates, mining, etc.)
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for project execution of baseline environmental assessment programs associated with comprehensive regulatory submissions
Regulatory engagement / consultation and management of the SIR and SOC response process with regulatory agencies
Develop and manage project-specific budgets in alignment with project scope and strategy
Advise clients regarding strategy and approach for project work and delivery of technical documents and communicate progress
Experience in proposal development and management of regulatory bid submissions is an asset
Personnel and Logistics Management
Supervise, mentor, and provide technical support to senior, intermediate, and junior staff working primarily on projects and assignments under your care and control
Oversee and steward Vertex’s safety policies and procedures
Technical Requirements
Extensive experience in the regulatory process for projects within Alberta; Saskatchewan and British Columbia experience is considered an asset
Working knowledge understand, remain current, and ability to interpret environmental regulations, guidelines, requirements, and standards as required by Vertex business and client base
Ability to navigate regulatory requirements and provide design solutions, mitigation strategies, risk and opportunities, and anticipated timing to clients
Provide technical guidance to clients and staff or ensure clients are connected to a Vertex Technical Lead when required
Steward technical disciplines in scoping and methodology development for programs
Authoring and managing the progression of technical reports for regulatory submissions
Senior review and sign-off (in areas of practice) of technical reports
Other duties as directed by your manager
LOCATION
This position will be based out of the Sherwood Park or Calgary Alberta office, other locations could be considered depending on the candidate and preferred location
