Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Process Operator at the world scale LP7 Polyethylene Gas Phase Plant at the Prentiss site, located near Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.

At Prentiss, Alberta, Dow Chemical Canada operates a world-scale production unit that manufactures polyethylene. The polyethylene facility in Prentiss is the largest in the Dow Chemical Company and serves customers globally.
The Process Operator is a vital resource for LP7 Operations by applying technical skills to optimize plant operations, resolve plant problems, and enable safe and efficient production of quality products.
They have direct and shared accountability for assets, and achievement of Prentiss site, LP7 Plant, Gas Phase business and corporate goals.
The successful candidate will be expected to be self-motivated, have strong technical skills with high initiative, drive for EH&S (Environmental, Health & Safety) excellence, skills in people & organizational effectiveness, along with a business owner continuous improvement mindset.
The successful candidate will be assigned to one of the five shift teams and will work a 12 hour rotating shift schedule, including day and night shifts.
The LP7 Process Operator is a high impact role that generates tremendous value to Dow through their knowledge, skills and abilities, with the following expectations :
Operating process related equipment and plant process control systems in a safe environmentally responsible manner
Optimizing plant performance by monitoring process equipment and conditions using information systems including; process levels, temperatures, pressures and flow rates
Collecting and reporting plant measurements related to performance, asset utilization, quality, costs yields, environmental health and safety (EH&S), production rates, etc.
Complete detailed rounds every shift. Identify and escalate any issues that may affect the safe operation of the pressure equipment.
i.e. damage, leaks, corrosion, coating failures, heat affected surfaces, abnormal noise, vibration, etc.
Complete detailed shift logbook notes.
Operate 5600 and 1440 kPa steam systems for process heating and utility services.
Operation of plant flare system (fuel gas, High Energy Ignition system, flame front generator, BTU analyzer, etc).
Safely isolate (Lock out / Tag out), vent and drain, and prepare equipment for maintenance activities.
Racking in / out various sizes of electric motors.
Operation of various plant compressors
Operation of plant pumps for cooling water, glycol heat trace system, process raw materials, etc
Follow Operating Discipline principles, procedures, and practices to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas
Be well versed in the safety standards
Intervene with any unsafe activity and actively participate in safety programs
Determining root causes of deviations in process, product or equipment performance through use of troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis.
Identifying opportunities for improvement and implements improvements when appropriate
Taking process samples to be analyzed to maintain process and quality standards
Responsible for performing process equipment troubleshooting, routine equipment repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance.
Issue Safe Work Permits for all Maintenance activities within the facility.
Train new employees on equipment, instrumentation and techniques, and provide coaching to peers.
Participate on the Site Emergency Response Team.
Performing daily tasks efficiently using the appropriate computer tools and software.
Ensuring operational activities and process performance are aligned with plant and business goals.
Completing individual duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.
Required Qualifications :
Current, valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Willing and able to work a 12 hour rotating shift schedule.
Proficient in the use of computers.
Be proficient in computers to perform job tasks.

Preferred Qualifications :
Previous experience in a related role.
Proficient in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel.
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
A minimum requirement is an Alberta 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency.
