Provides technical services to ensure repairs are well managed following large-scale building damage events (caused by vandalism, fire, flood, or third party damage) in social housing buildings located primarily in the Downtown Eastside.
Reviews site conditions immediately after an event occurs to validate the remediation work required. Conducts detailed plan and specification reviews, conducts site inspections during construction, and provides contract administration services to effectively control the costs.
Ensures all projects comply with BC Housing's Design and Construction Standards. Monitors the work of inspectors, architects, other consultants and general contractors, and manages multiple stakeholders throughout the process .
The successful candidate will have the following :
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :
Diploma from a minimum 2 year Building, Engineering or Architectural Technology Program or equivalent education to qualify as an Applied Science Technologist (graduate of an accredited building technology diploma program).
Training an asset in the following :
Building system principles,
Industry standards including regulatory requirements,
Construction contract administration,
Recommended construction practices.
Minimum 5 years experience in advanced level positions within the discipline, including at least 2 years acceptable technologist work experience, considerable related field experience, and 2 years contract administration experience including significant experience with industry standard construction contracts.
Experience inspecting buildings
Experience working with general contractors and general knowledge of contractor market rates
Or an equivalent combination education, training and experience acceptable to the organization
Occupational Certification Preferred : Eligible for designation as an Engineer, Quality Surveyor, Architect, Architectural Technologist, or AScT (Applied Science Technologist) or CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Detailed understanding of residential building systems and components
Good knowledge of the BC Building Code
Ability to perform high level cost estimates for residential building repairs and challenge scope creep
Ability to maintain diplomacy and tact during sensitive discussions and resolve conflicts while maintaining good business relationships
Ability to coordinate work with others, keep senior management apprised of major issues and adapt to changing priorities
Effective consultative, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution and consensus building skills
Effective planning, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated critical thinking skills
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement and well-honed decision making skills

Excellent organizational skills
Ability to read and critique construction drawings and building envelope assessment reports
A good understanding of Municipal approval procedures
Ability to estimate construction costs for renovation and building repair projects
Proficiency in use Windows environment, MS Office applications and in Construction software
Valid BC Driver's Licence
Wiillingness to work periodic evenings and weekends
