Purpose of the Position :
Reporting to Senior Medical Director, the Director, Medical Affairs Hematology and Oncology (HemOnc) will have primary accountability for developing and executing the ongoing Medical Affairs strategy and operational and support plans through different diseases in more than one Therapeutic Area (eg.
Multiple Myeloma and Myeloid).
The strategic areas of focus for this role includes KOL education and research (investigator initiated trials IIT’s , and registration studies), as well as developing and supporting Therapeutic Area Team goals.
This position will develop the vision and goals for the HemOnc Medical team, managing different roles including : Senior Manager, Regional Medical Liaisons (RMLs)Medical Manager and / or Medical AdvisorRML team (through Senior Manager, RMLs)
Essential Functions :
Strategic management of the Therapeutic Areas :
Provide strategic insight, leadership and support for the development and execution of the Medical Affairs (MA) Vision, Strategic Imperatives and Goals for the 1-5 year plan
Clearly communicate the regional and national objectives and Plans of Action (POA)
Provide primary Medical Affairs accountability for HemOnc areas (includes but not limited to, development of strategic plans, integration with global disease team, KOL development and support, scientific analysis and interpretation of data)
Ensure that all interactions and activities of Medical Affairs comply with Celgene business guidance, policies, SOPs, and HC guidelines / policies
Collaborate with Global Medical Affairs to appropriately respond to local requests for pipeline and off-label information
Develop structure, define roles and provide leadership, direction and training to direct reports in the HemOnc Medical Affairs Team :
Provide strong leadership to motivate the team to achieve excellent results and deliverables
Define, clarify and manage the team priorities
Actively support the HemOnc medical team and their efforts by being their advocate and spokesperson; promote collaboration within the team, across functional groups and with customers (internal / external)
Manage and develop the team, including hiring, evaluation, motivation, training plan and disciplinary activities in alignment with Celgene corporate strategies and objectives
Scientific liaison to other Celgene departments and with National KOLs
Work with the commercial team to ensure clinical support and regional activities are in alignment with corporate objectives and compliant with Ethical Code and legislation
Support Clinical Research in the management of IITs and Clinical trials (centers choice, feasibility, enrollment) and in Celgene Canada becoming a Centre of Excellence
Communicate any significant issues and / or recommend process improvements to Senior Management
Support Market Access team by providing medical input if required into regulatory submissions
Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with key customers, KOLs and Cooperative Groups, preferred providers and stakeholders at the National level
Senior member of the Medical Leadership Team providing strategic direction for the department
Deliver pertinent presentation(s) to the senior leadership team in Celgene-Canada as needed
Participate in local and global projects, as required

Proficiency in the interpretation of clinical data and integration of clinical experience; able to communicate and discuss clinical findings whenever appropriate / required
Current working knowledge of Canadian legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines pertinent to pharmaceutical development
Ability to partner with key internal stakeholders to understand and drive plans that achieve or exceed Celgene’s key objectives
Ability to partner with key external stakeholders to develop opportunities in line with Celgene’s goals and stakeholders’ interests
Excellent communication, presentation and time management skills required; must be adaptable and able to work well within a team and relate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently

Computer proficiency with with Microsoft Office programs (Microsoft Project, Power Point, Word and Excel)
Bilingual (French) an asset
Education & Experience :
Medical Degree, PharmD, PhD, or M.Sc. and previous Pharma / Biotech industry experience (at least 5 years)
Experience in Medical Affairs / Clinical Research required
Experience in Hematology and Oncology required
International experience an asset
At least 4 years of people management experience
This is an office based position with approximately 30% travel.
