Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Production Technical, you are responsible for leading project activities with a specilized focus on Factory Automation and Digilization.

This role consists of owning equipment system standards, and all matters relating to compliance, reliability and project execution for the site.

You are responsible for ensuring a proper system of reporting, monitoring and escalation is established to manage project exceptions.

Acting as a leading member of a team, you work with other members in an attempt to reduce or eliminate non-value added activities or costs, while maintaining or improving quality, productivity, and timeliness throughout the project(s) being managed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist with capital and non-capital projects with a focus on Factory Automation and Digitization.
  • Act as department lead for global digitalization project (SmartFactory / FOI), coordinating with stakeholders, internal and external resources, and end users as required as a Subject Matter Expert for various equipment and automation systems
  • Identify and lead the implementation of equipment replacement, improvement and optimization. Develop project design concepts, justification, scope, specifications and cost estimates.
  • Liaise with all levels across the organization to lead the activities and communicate project status and impacts.
  • Work closely with Production Technical Coordinators to attain resources and at times perform site supervision of mechanics / electricians / contractors.
  • Manage resources to complete projects on schedule and create contingency plans to ensure minimal production impact.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of equipment, enabling you to be a subject matter expert for the purpose of investigations, audits, training, or otherwise as required for systems.
  • Resolve senior level or complex technical service issues with internal customers, such as Operations, Quality, Engineering, etc.
  • and formulate recommendations to resolve matters which are beyond existing SOPs. Develop clear and simple methods to present the problem, root cause and proposed solution.

    Must be comfortable presenting to upper management.

  • Liaise regularly with other senior technical specialist and end users to : Develop layouts and support design specifications Provide technical advice Acquire a more detailed understanding of their short and longer term technical service needs and Recommend solutions for improvements
  • Recommend changes to designs, drawings and modifications of equipment or parts as required in conjunction with engineering and maintenance.
  • Responsible for Developing and Maintaining Project Timelines and implementation schedules for all assigned initiatives.
  • Work with all members to develop project time lines and implementation schedules for projects utilizing project management software.

  • Use systems expertise to work with individual stakeholders, to ensure the appropriate change controls, commissioning, qualification and training plans with accompanying resources are in place to deliver efficient system start-up.
  • Keep abreast of all changes and advances in company policies and new technology. Liases with peers and others in the industry to research best practices and technologies and recommends application to Apotex and Affiliates.
  • Support as required the trouble-shooting and problem resolution of existing equipment and systems.
  • As a member of the Site Engineering Team, provide expertise and support to ensure the regulatory inspection readiness of audit trails associated with automated systems.

  • Education

  • University / College education / Project Management certification preferred or proven equivalency.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Practical experience with large-scale digitalization initiatives and / or SmartFactory configuration (including but not limited to OPC communication, FOI, IIoT)
  • Expert level knowledge of Solid Dose production and facilities equipment, is preferred
  • Knowledge of Health Canada, FDA regulations would be an asset. proven track record in managing projects in a team environment on time, on budget
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with PLC, PC, and Network systems would be an asset.
  • Experience with equipment validation protocols (IQ, OQ) would be an asset
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills
  • Experienced in process mapping techniques.
  • Proven strong organizational, time management, and project management skills. Demonstrated experience in co-ordinating project activities.
  • Experience in commissioning and qualifying equipment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience

  • 5 to 10 years experience in the industry of pharmaceutical or consumer goods high-speed packaging. Coupled with at least 2 years of project leadership skills.
