Acoustic Characterization Engineer

Soundskrit is an early stage start-up in Montreal, Canada. We are leveraging years of research in bio-inspired MEMS microphones to develop the first multi-directional acoustic flow sensor that can capture and isolate any sound in the environment with a fraction of the size, power, and computation of alternative solutions.

Our proprietary hardware senses acoustic waves in a fundamentally new way to provide a level of sound localization and separation not previously obtainable.

With our proprietary algorithms, we unlock a suite of audio features with outstanding performance : far-field voice capture, spatial audio recordings for immersive audio rendering, audio event characterization and much more.

As an Acoustic Characterization Engineer, you will be responsible for the acoustic testing of Soundskrit’s early microphone prototypes.

You will work closely with the MEMS design team to understand the behaviour of the microphone and the influence of different parameters including membrane geometry, electrical circuit, and bias voltage to optimize the sensor’s signal-to-noise ratio, dynamic range, frequency response, etc.

This role will be critical in developing the company’s first commercial devices and you will be a key player in the company’s success! Our ideal start date is August 2020, full-time, right here in Montreal.

If you are ready to be apart of a game-changing team and have the experience to help us move forward, we want you!

Some of your responsibilities will include :

  • Develop an acoustic testing rig for measuring the frequency response, SNR, THD of Soundskrit’s velocity microphone.
  • Develop automation and analysis tools in Python or Matlab.
  • Build a database of results and analyze findings.
  • Preferred qualifications :

  • Master’s or PhD related to acoustics.
  • 5+ years experience with acoustic testing (preferably for microphones).
  • Experience with signal analyzers, reference microphone and speakers, anechoic chambers, Python or Matlab automation and analysis.
  • Experience with PCBs and electrical troubleshooting (shorts, open circuits, RF noise)
  • Track record of design, innovation, or production.
  • What we offer :

Soundskrit is the only company that challenges the status quo in sound capture and is building the optimal acoustic system from the ground up.

By re-designing both the hardware and software, we will drastically outperform existing microphone arrays and software-only solutions.

Our chip provides a small footprint, low latency, and low complexity solution that will unlock new use cases for audio in the consumer electronics industry.

Under the guidance of our experts in acoustics and MEMS technologies, you will explore this new field of audio engineering with us and discover new capabilities for our sensors.

You will interact with prestigious customers across all verticals and champion our vision in

conferences. As an exceptional engineer, you will shape our upcoming product development and you will be involved in major strategic decisions.

As we grow, there will be opportunities for product and technical management.

On top of this we also provide :

  • A collaborative work environment where you will be listened to and appreciated
  • A chance to impact the company on a day-to-day basis
  • Competitive stock options and benefits
  • A generous vacation package
  • A culture of respect, hard work, and success
  • A lot of fun along the way!
