Your Opportunity :

The Surgical Processor is responsible for the decontamination, reprocessing and distribution of a variety of endoscopes, equipment and supplies.

Staff within this classification must be able to perform the full range of duties, including the most complex, and will be working in an area that assembles, decontaminates, and sterilizes complex surgical equipment.

Duties are performed in adherence to established departmental standards and procedures, as well as, in adherence to standards of external governing bodies.

Incumbent will also participate in quality monitoring activities. Note : The successful candidate may be required to provide on call coverage.

Description :

As a Surgical Processor, you will be responsible for the decontamination, reassembly and sterilization of hospital supplies, equipment and surgical instrumentation.

You will use the principles of aseptic technique and follow Universal Precautions in the prevention of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI).

You will ensure instrumentation and equipment is in proper working order, perform biological, chemical and quality assurance testing and report problems to the supervisor or designate.

    Required Qualifications :

    Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) program. Completion of International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) certification or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification.

    Additional Required Qualifications :

    Recognized Surgical Processing Certificate course is required. Must be willing to attend educational courses related to work duties.

    Must be able to demonstrate and understand the correct operating procedures for all equipment within the area, including steam and low temperature sterilization, disinfection and have a sound knowledge of the different methods of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization.

    Must understand the principles of aseptic technique as related to instruments, supplies and equipment preparation and exemplify thoroughness and attention to detail.

    Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing and following written and verbal instructions in English. Must be able to work independently and demonstrate ability to prioritize, organize and communicate with team members to ensure collaboration in meeting work objectives.

    Must be able to life packages up to 20 pounds, consistently, reach, bend, stoop and stand for long periods of time.
