Job Summary :

The incumbent identifies policy needs, recommends new or revised policy responses, and coordinates policy development.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Work proactively with senior managers and municipal staff to identify policy needs and recommend appropriate policy responses to address these needs.
  • Research and coordinate the development and approval of policy instruments including : bylaws, Council policies, Administrative Directives, and procedures.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and advise on the development of materials to facilitate decision making by Council and Administration.
  • Review draft policy materials prepared by departments and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain the City’s policy framework and serve as a SharePoint site administrator.
  • Ensure City of Whitehorse policies remain compliant with evolving Statutory and Common law.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and standards throughout the City.
  • Provide advice and expertise to all departments.
  • Coordinate strategic planning initiatives with all departments.
  • Evaluate City of Whitehorse policies and conducts the annual Citizen Survey.
  • Foster and maintain effective relationships among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as Manager, Legislative Services as assigned.
  • Follow so far as is reasonably practicable, safety procedures and standards.
  • Other related duties.
