Department Overview

The Treasury & Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) department of TD Bank is responsible for measurement and management of interest rate risk for the domestic and foreign subsidiary retail bank product portfolios, transfer pricing those portfolios and reporting margins and Net Interest Income (NII).

The Pension Investment Management team is a relatively new department within TBSM. This team drives value by maximizing long term yields of the TDBG defined benefit (DB) pension plans, while maintaining financial and capital volatility within acceptable ranges.

Investment strategies of the DB pension plans are being re-evaluated in light of changing capital markets conditions along with considerations of the pension liability profiles and risks, as well as accounting, tax and capital rules.

Pension asset and liability risks are managed through identification, assessment and frequent monitoring to ensure that they are within acceptable limits.

The total DB pension liabilities are approximately $10 Billion across North America. Our DB pension plans provide guaranteed retirement benefits to TDBG employees.

All DB pension plans are heavily regulated and face many challenges as the economic environment and social demographic change.

The Pension Investment Management team is tasked with providing sustainable pension asset / liability solutions for TDBG employees and shareholders.
