Reporting to our Tax Manager, , the U.S. Tax Lead collaborates with regional teams, and our parent company, to identify and implement best practices that optimize our tax structure.

In this role, you will interact with senior leaders to both research and support strategic tax planning initiatives, and manage the tax reporting and compliance processes.

Your Key Deliverables

You will be a key player to support the management of the Company’s U.S. Federal and State and Local tax compliance, audits and financial statement reporting.

This role will also focus on implementing technology and efficient processes to streamline the Company’s U.S. tax compliance, audit and provision reporting processes.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage annual U.S. tax compliance of partnerships and corporations, including gathering of information, preparing calculations and facilitating the process with external advisors
  • Prepare U.S. tax provision and tax disclosures for external financial statement purposes
  • Coordinate with the corporate finance team and business units to obtain quarterly and year-end tax reporting and tax compliance information and to provide tax guidance to business units as necessary
  • Correspond with various tax authorities, including coordination of tax audits, research and preparation of responses and negotiation of tax issues
  • Ensure compliance with the organization’s internal controls in relation to tax and relevant accounting and tax policies
  • Research and prepare technical memos in support of U.S. tax technical positions taken in the financial statements and statutory filings
  • Keep abreast of the latest tax developments and issues that impact the organization such as changes in legislation, court decisions, rulings, etc.
  • Refine and improve data collection processes supporting tax returns
  • Identify and assist with the implementation of process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency in the tax compliance and provision areas
  • Must Haves

  • U.S. Certified Public Accountant designation (Canadian CPA will also be considered)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ tax experience specializing in U.S. corporate / partnership income tax in a public accounting firm, or publicly traded company
  • Strong ability to research and comprehend complex tax regulations and communicate findings to various levels of management
  • In-depth background in partnership / corporate / disregarded entity tax compliance and tax accounting process and knowledge of financial reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of accounting standards relating to accounting for income taxes under U.S. GAAP and IFRS
  • Experience in dealing with tax authorities and financial statement auditors
  • Proven ability to think big picture, identify opportunities for improvement, and optimize workflows
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straight forward manner
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior management as well as external parties
  • Great team player with the ability to anticipate and proactively resolve issues
  • Detail oriented, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of computerized accounting systems, Thompson Reuters OneSource / GoSystem U.S. tax compliance software, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
