The Maintenance Engineer will report to the Maintenance Manager for the Heartland Petrochemical Complex. During the commissioning phase of the project the position will be focused on interfacing to project groups for the latter part of design and supporting the commissioning teams as requested.

Prior to plant start up the position will primarily be focused on front line systems development as required by the maintenance organization including asset criticality determinations, spare parts and procedure development.

Key Activities and Responsibilities :

  • Provide first level engineering support to Maintenance and Operations personnel to help analyze, troubleshoot, and solve equipment problems and issues
  • Originates and develops analysis methods for determining maintenance demands for components, equipment and processes. Acquires and analyzes maintenance data and prepares recommendations for plant management on asset operability
  • Conducts analysis of asset maintainability problems and investigates to determine if an outage is required considering cost limitations, asset integrity etc.
  • Determines cost advantages of repair / replace alternatives when developing action plans to comply with demands for timely repair of processes / equipment.
  • Ensures that Maintenance / Reliability aligned project requests are supported by an initial cost / benefit analysis
  • Leads investigations into equipment failures utilizing the appropriate level of investigative tool. Maintains and prioritizes the dept bad actor list.
  • Interface with engineering, service, and vendor companies on equipment issues.
  • Assist as a technical resource in the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the plant. Contributes to shutdown plans, overhaul plans, and preventative maintenance plans.
  • Mentor and coach plant employees by setting a positive tone for communication and collaboration within the department and with other departments
  • Project Management

  • Complete projects as assigned, ensuring all are executed safely, in compliance with all rules, regulations and standards, on budget, on time, operationally successful and in line with the business objectives.
  • Assist other teams as required to ensure maintenance / reliability needs are handled appropriately and overall site needs are addressed.
  • Contribute to plant long-term capital plans by preparing justifications, scopes and estimates for potential future Maintenance and Reliability supported projects.
  • Develop leadership skills to help prepare for increasing levels of accountability and responsibility in the manufacturing facility
  • Gain CMRP or equivalent certification
  • Education, Skills and Experience Required :

  • 7+ years of related experience in Oil / Gas / Petrochemical Manufacturing required
  • BSc Mechanical Engineer and P. Eng. (APEGA) certification required
  • Familiarity with API, ANSI, ASME, ABSA standards required
  • Unwavering commitment to team work, safety, health, environment, financial accountability, technical excellence, asset health and equipment performance
  • Additional skills preferred :

  • Familiarity with Reliability Analytics, RCM, FMEA, Asset Criticality an asset
  • Familiarity with greenfield facility start-ups and commissioning an asset
  • Familiarity with establishing Mtce Reliability processes and systems an asset
  • Familiarity with Predictive Technology applications such as
  • Thermography, Vibration, Ultrasonic, Tribology, ValveLink, etc.
  • Plant Commissioning and Start-up experience
  • Set up of Maintenance systems and processes in a green field site
  • Spare parts selection and rationalization
  • Successful candidate may be required to work at heights, climb ladders, work in various weather conditions and work environments.
