Reporting to the Retail Training Manager, the Leadership Development Specialist Retail, will be a full-time member of the training team supporting the creation and facilitation of training for our national retail teams for both Tweed and Tokyo Smoke.

The Leadership Development Specialist Retail will be responsible for ensuring an elevated experience for all retail staff completing leadership development training throughout Canada.

The ideal candidate is passionate about retail and personal / leadership development, and is excited to work in a dynamic, young market.

As we continue to open retail locations across Canada, the Leadership Development Specialist Retail will work with the training team and HR to identify, create and roll out leadership development training programs for our retail teams.

The Leadership Development Specialist Retail will create foundational leadership development programs, including programs that build self, people and business leadership skills and empower our teams to grow and develop themselves in key areas.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain exposure to a vibrant new retail industry and learn new skills quickly within a rapidly expanding organization.

  • Create and facilitate leadership development programs focused on developing retail team members into great team members in all aspects of their lives - taking into account their schedules, resources, and locations
  • Work with the Director of Stores, District Managers and Store Managers to identify leadership opportunities within retail teams, and create programs that solve them
  • Ensure that leadership development programs focused on self-leadership, people-leadership and business-leadership are available to retail teams across the country
  • Create leadership development programs that provide Education Specialists and Tweedtenders with the clear vision of how they can develop themselves into a senior leader at Canopy
  • Develop leadership development programs that keep retail team members engaged developing a deep pipeline of talent to support our growth internally rather than externally
  • Work with HR, the Retail Training team, and outside leadership development consultants to create the foundational tools and principles on which our leadership development programs will be built
  • Work with HR, the Retail Training team, and outside leadership development consultants to determine the strategies for creating and rolling out each leadership development program or module
  • Work with outside leadership development consultants to create leadership development programs that are designed specifically for the needs of retail team members and leaders
  • Train and develop District Managers, Store Managers and other members of the retail team so they can effectively train and develop their respective teams
  • Lead a variety of different personality types in a dynamic, engaging and thoughtful manner
  • In stores on a regular basis training and supporting the retail teams
  • Responsible for the successful roll out of leadership development programs across Canada
  • Able to see what the future needs of the business and team members are and create leadership development programs to support the growth of the business and team
  • Complete any and all other training or development tasks as directed by the Retail Training Manager
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Experience

  • Undergraduate degree preferred with an emphasis in Business, Education, Marketing, Communications or Psychology desired
  • Strong self and people leadership skills with 4+ years of leadership experience with proven results
  • 3-4 years’ experience in retail, retail operations, training, merchandising, sales or marketing in the retail industry
  • 2-3 years’ experience creating and facilitating leadership development programs
  • Understands the requirements and functions of a leadership role within a retail environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exceptional skills in customer service, time management, flexibility, analysis, accountability, practicality, and feedback
  • Strong presentation skills with small to medium sized groups - online and in-person
  • Able to travel nationally as may be required time to time
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced environment

    This is a full-time position based out of Vancouver, BC.
