Position Description :
Position of Senior Manager, Tax works within the Taxation Department at the Corporate office in Toronto and reports to the Tax Director Group Financial Reporting.
The primary purpose of this position is to review and support country teams on tax provision calculations and disclosures, improve the automation of tax processes across the group, ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations on all return filings, including transfer pricing documentation, and support the Tax Director on group consolidation and process improvements in Toronto.
Researching relevant IFRS provisions, preparing quarterly and year-end tax provisions for Canada, provision to return true-ups, provision to audit true-ups and deferred income tax proofs
Assisting the Director in reviewing accounting tax provisions for the US, Dominican Republic, South America, Asia Pacific, and Africa Middle East
Assisting the Director in consolidating world-wide tax provision information into summary form
Preparing cash tax forecasts, budget tax expense and budget cash tax payments, and LOM tax calculations for Canada
Assisting the Director in ongoing efforts to automate functions in the tax department in Canada and worldwide
Responsible for coordinating tax department’s compliance with SOX section 404 and participate in establishing ongoing monitoring systems for SOX section 404 compliance
Responsible for (with the assistance of external consultants as required) the preparation of regulatory filings, with respect to income taxes, withholding taxes, and value-added taxes in Canada.
Assisting the Director in the management of statutory tax audits in Canada
Assisting the Tax and Treasury group in tax efficient movement of cash worldwide
Ensuring transfer pricing documentation requirements are met
Act as principal liaison between Finance Shared Center in Henderson and Barrick Corporate Tax Group
Administer tax function Sharepoint site
Prepare annual guidance on country tax regulations to support Strategic Matters
Undertake research and provide advice to other functions within Barrick such as aviation, Human Resources, etc
Provide support to tax planning projects, and review tax assumptions in economics of investment proposals
Prepare annual budget for the tax department and carry out quarterly revisions to actuals
Support the SVP of Tax and Treasury on strategic projects
Bachelor Commerce / Business / Law Degree
Member Institute of Chartered Accountants - CPA
Minimum of ten years of experience in commerce and / or accounting profession (big 4 preferred)
Mining experience preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to construct and use financial models
The ability to critically analyse finance information
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is preferred
