1) Part-Time Evenings-BSO Support (Behavioral Support Ontario)
33 hours bi-weekly)
The RECREATION THERAPIST will provide therapeutic recreation programs to residents with Dementia in our Long-Term Care Home and in our Assisted Living Facility.
This includes assessing their needs, facilitating and evaluating activities. The therapeutic interventions must be meaningful and assist with responsive behaviors.
The successful incumbent will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to provide optimal quality of service to our residents and families.
This position will also work closely with the on-site BSO (Behavioral Supports Ontario) Team to ensure our residents are receiving exceptional Dementia care and recreational programing.
Furthermore, you will support the client's comfort, independence and control through a variety of interesting, innovative, therapeutic, and stimulating recreational programs.
Supporting the involvement of staff, families, students, and volunteers will be essential.
Our ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications and skills :
Degree or Diploma in Recreation & Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.
Preferences will be given to someone with Therapeutic Recreation background.
GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approaches) to Dementia Care, U-First and other related training is an asset.
Minimum three (3) years' experience working in a Recreation setting required.
Experience designing, planning and executing recreational activities and therapeutic programs for seniors.

Is motivated, has excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills in English language required.

Able to meet the physical stress of running recreational programs, including but not limited to :
o Lifting up-to 40 lbs
o Pushing, pulling wheeled carts up-to 50 lbs
o Frequent bending, stretching / reaching, walking and standing for prolonged periods of time
Competency in documentation practices and computer applications (ie. MS Word, Excel, Activity Pro, Point Click Care, MDS)
