Job Description

  • Review task assignments and construction activities for the incorporation of acceptable security and safety measures;
  • Provide construction safety assurance by reviewing and assessing Contractor’s Health & Safety Plan and Safe Work Method submissions and inspecting construction sites.
  • Accuracy of time reporting for all staff engaged in the work;
  • Audit construction activities to identify hazardous conditions and work procedures and recommend corrective action;
  • Investigate safety violations and prepare reports covering investigation and conclusions as required;
  • Develop and conduct educational programs as necessary for construction site management and supervision staff, site inspectors and project administration staff;
  • Compile and manage the Safety Training Records for all staff working on the project;
  • Provide input into monthly Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) reporting;
  • Ensure timely reporting of HSE Incidents / Accidents;
  • Prepare and conduct site safety orientations as required;

  • Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety;
  • Relevant degree from an accredited institution, as well as an educational qualification in occupational health and safety;
  • Thorough understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations with emphasis on creating strong safety culture on-site and accident prevention techniques including compliance with external and internal policies;
  • Shall possess at least one of the following safety professional designations :
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
  • Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC)
  • Gold Seal Certificate (GSC) for Construction Safety Coordinator (CSC)
  • National Safety Officer (NSO)
  • Other professional and technical designations are an asset;
  • Experience with transit construction projects (e.g. railway, subway, light rail, buses) is considered an asset;
  • Experience with transit agency (e.g. TTC, Metrolinx) is an asset;
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational, administrative, analytical and problem-solving abilities;
