Position Overview :

Key member of the Governance Centre of Excellence team by working in accordance with best practice for a 1st Line of Defence function on a national level.

  • Ensure effective controls are embedded to mitigate critical risks; working with the business to ensure new / changing processes are appropriately controlled;
  • develop and implement solutions were there are gaps in processes or breakdown of controls.

    You will support the execution of a control validation framework and methodology to provide oversight on various delegated authority arrangements, and manage risks, for example by working closely with Leadership teams (Claims, Personal & Commercial Lines) to ensure a strong control environment is in place.

    What you will achieve in this role

  • Work closely with external & internal stakeholders in Personal Insurance, Commercial Insurance and Claims to identify business objectives and perform risk assessments.
  • Evaluate operational effectiveness of business processes and internal controls
  • Leverage and learn from subject matter experts within the Governance team and the business (e.g. Actuarial, Claims, Finance, IT, Risk & Compliance, and Underwriting).
  • Manage ongoing communications with business stakeholders during and after the control validation process.
  • Report on significant findings and underlying root causes distilling complex ideas into plain language.
  • Provide practical recommendations as well as constructive challenge and periodic monitoring over Management’s mitigating action plans.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the annual control validation plan.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of assurance and governance frameworks and methodologies, including the design of processes and controls.
  • Support a cross-functional team in a collaborative environment to increase understanding of and ability to contribute to the overall risk and wider perspectives of the business.
  • Regular engagement with 2nd Line and 3rd Line of Defence to manage risks effectively.
  • Help build a strong control environment by reducing risks and ensuring there is a robust framework in place with effective and efficient controls and processes.
  • What you bring to this role

  • Risk management experience in the Financial Services Industry (ideally Insurance).
  • Relevant professional designation(s) such as CIP, CPA, CIA or CRM preferred.
  • An excellent understanding of modern governance, risk and control frameworks, including the 3 Lines of Defense.
  • Good understanding of the property and casualty insurance business, including operations and related internal controls, would be an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships and influence people at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to resourcefully gather information, analyze critically, and communicate clearly.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
