CIMA+ is currently seeking applications for an experienced Building Mechanical Engineer from qualified individuals who are interested in becoming a member of our Buildings Engineering group in Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

Lead building mechanical engineering services for commercial, institutional, educational, healthcare, government, recreational and light industrial facility projects.

Lead a team of mechanical engineers and technologists on assigned projects.

Assist the Buildings Practice Leader with the growth and development of the mechanical team.

Be a technical resource in building mechanical design, and leverage that knowledge to mentor and develop junior engineers and technologists.

Prepare technical specifications and contract documents for bidding and construction.

Conduct quality assurance reviews on building mechanical design work completed by others.

Keep current on new products, technologies and design processes.

Coordinate work with architects, other engineering disciplines, and Owner representatives.

Contribute to business development, marketing and liaising with Clients and Architects.

Assist in determining the scope and fee for proposed engineering services.

Lead proposal efforts for building mechanical and multi-discipline project pursuits.


Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.

Professional Engineer registered in Canada, and eligible for professional registration in Alberta.

10+ years of progressive experience in building mechanical design.

Experience working in a consulting engineering environment.

Experience as mechanical design lead and able to direct and oversee a team of engineers and technologists on projects.

Able to articulate the mechanical design requirements and oversee the progression of mechanical system layouts in Autodesk® Revit and AutoCAD MEP.

Experience in leading, coaching and mentoring staff.

In-depth understanding of regulations, codes and standards associated with building mechanical design.

General understanding of building electrical and building structural systems.

Team player and independent worker.

Professional, energetic, organized and action-oriented.

Experience in using Microsoft office products including MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in the English language.

Experience in estimating engineering fees and schedules.

Experience in writing engineering reports, proposals, letters and technical specifications.

Proven success in developing business with new and existing clients, and maintaining positive relationships.

Experience in project management and controls, with a proven record of client satisfaction and financial success.

Experience in monitoring and adapting to industry trends and changing market conditions.

Able to travel to project sites.

The following are considered assets :

LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Fellow or Green Associate.

Experience in Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Experience in conducting field reviews and / or building condition assessments.

Certified Passive House Designer (CPHD).

Experience in Life Cycle Costing (LCC).

Experience on projects certified to LEED, Living Building Challenge (LBC), Passive House, and / or Green Globes.

Experience in building energy modeling using Can-QUEST, eQUEST, EnergyPlus, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, IES(VE) or comparable platform.
